Td27 Turbo Removal

Post by Bonus »

Hi Guys

Just wondering if anyone can give any pointers on removing my turbo, as in a few weeks im swapping both the intake and exhaust manifolds and replacing them with units from a 98 mistral to install an intercooler

Had plenty of turbos over the years but have never had to remove one

is it a must to drain oil & coolant?
If im just swapping exhausts manifolds do I even need to remove oil & water lines?

Any tricks, tips, dos and don'ts muchly appreciated

Cheers
Leon

Don't need to drain oil, Will have to drain coolant.
You will probably have to remove the coolant and oil lines to move the turbo out to the side. Depending on if the nuts come off the stud bolts or the whole stud just comes out. I found it easiest to disconnect the oil drain line from the rubber hose, through the wheel arch. and disconnect the coolant inlet from the front under thermostat housing.
And also if you still have your EGR, you will need to unbolt that from your exhaust manifold.
Why exactly do you have to change the exhaust manifold?
Is it different from the Nissan Mistrals?

Cool thanks for that, good place to start

The mistral has the factory mounting points for the intercooler, got the cooler and both manifolds as a set, so may as well use them all, then I can delete the egr completely, instead of just blanking it off :)

Sounds good.
I've just purchased an intercooler of a TD27Ti R20 Terrano.
But i didn't get the manifolds, So i'll have to just make a few mounting points. And i have already blanked off the EGR flanges.
What bonnet Scoop are you going to use??

Gonna use a scoop from a bighorn, perfect fit from what ive seen and matches well with the bonnet and doesnt look overkill like some scoops. What did the cooler set u back? Got a bargain with mine, $100 for cooler and both manifolds

Haha, yes a bargain.. Couldn't find any in my state.. Only one i could find was in South Australia and they wanted $300 plus postage :\
I'll have to go looking at the wreckers for a bonnet scoop..
