Need advice on 80 suspension lift

Post by Lchundy »

Ok i need some help/advice guys please
Ive brought 5inch suspension lift for my lc80(springs,shocks,panhards,caster correction plates to suit)
And today have come across the tie rod/radius arm issue
Radius arm is hitting steering just trying to line up caster brackets and its looking like im going to have to grind to much off radius arm for it to be safe.
Because springs are new at the moment its probably sitting around 6.5 to 7 inches higher than it was and hasnt settled yet,if that makes any differance?Image

What i need help with is my options with getting it sorted and what its likely going to cost'
Havnt really got spare cash to go with custom setup
Would using caster correction bushes help with clearance over plates?
Want to make sure my next move wont be a waste of my time and money.
Thanks.

I have seen a kit that drops the chassis end of the radius arm. It used a bolt on bracket that went between the chassis mount and arm. That levelled every thing up.

Do you mean those drop boxes?
Have been reding up on them seems like a option but some people dont like them because of losing clearance

That's them It's a quick and easy way to solve your clearance problems, and get caster angles right. As for ground clearance your right you'll lose a bit but that may only be a problem when going backwards. I guess you could make slider ramps and weld them onto the chassis just behind the mount.

seen 35s on no lift with very minimal rubbing

simple 2-3" lift seems plenty for an 80

Um ive got 35 silverstones and it would rub going over little speed bumps around town and when turning, nearly ripped one of my front flares off.
Plus ive got winch, bull bar and plan to add rear bar and sliders so went with 5 inch lift because of extra wieght
Few mates have similar lift on there trucks and they tend to drop a bit over time.

I run a 5 inch lift (efs). When I first did it I just had 2 degree castor bushes in and it didn't hit so not sure what's going on with yours. Anyway it was all a bit scary on the road so I made up some drop boxes after trying unsuccessfully to locate some. I have no fabrication skills but it was straight forward enough. I used a similar design to the man-a-fre ones http://www.man-a-fre.com/pa/80seriescas ... ction.html

in terms of clearance, I run them along with two mates and we've never been hung up on them. But then most of our stuff is mud vs. rocks crawling. They're great for onroad performance as they basic set the geometry back to standard or near to it. Recommend them as a cheap fix.

Im running drop boxes with a 6" lift - they are wayyyy better than the caster correction plates i was initially running, which sent the truck all over the road at any kind of speed and generally felt unstable.

Its great now, and with good shocks, it drives no different to my mates 80 with no lift at all - so if you can get your hands on some, I'd recommend it.

As far as getting hung up on stuff, I haven't found them an issue at all.

Cheers,

Jay

They use the gearbox cross member so not sure if there is a difference between auto and manual.

Those Superior Engineering super flex arms?
Where did you get them and how much?
I too have castor plates but haven't fitted them because of the steering rod clearance issue.
Just trying to way up the options.
