The 4 ohm will be louder at the same volume settings - it will draw more power from the radio.
The key thing is to find out if your specific radio is happy driving a 4 ohm speaker. If not, it may be fine for a while, but could overheat if used for an extended period. Some amp ICs are only stable with 8 ohm load.

Speaker sensitivity is very significant. Your dealing with naff all watts - for example a 4ohm 93db speaker will make more sound than a 4ohm 87db speaker, even if the 87db speaker has double the power handling. Every 3db increase in volume requires double the amp power, so an 87db speaker is starting on the back foot in a big way. The low wattage radio amp may not have enough output to match the more sensitive speaker before the sound starts distorting.

You could always wire your CB speaker output to one of your stereos door speakers (4ohm), and put in a change-over switch. Cheaper and probably sound better than those nasty little extension speakers.

i was thinking about wiring it up to my rear door speakers but am going with the idea of fitting a extension speaker by the centre map light on the truck (behind the head of driver and passenger)

As danielbeek said, check the rating of the radio for what ohms it can handle and go with that, saves letting smoke out of the unit

I have a suitable input on my car stereo, (3.5mm plug) so run an extension to reach, works a treat, and don't have to worry about where to mount the extra speaker. :D

Audio Power 3 Watts average into 4 Ohms
Audio Signal to Noise > 45 dB

i think thats what ya meaning??

the 3.5 jack is that the same as the one in top middle???

but if im plugged into that can i still listen to radio???

Nope - Audio signal-to-noise is something else, that's to do with the radio. sensitivity is a rating for the speaker. Looked on GME site and looks like they don't give that rating anyway, so moot point.

That close to your ear should make it irrelevant which is louder. Should be clear as.

You might want to use a line level converter if you wire the amplified output of the radio in to the Aux (low level) input of the head unit. Like the Fusion HL-O2: http://www.fusionelectronics.co.nz/car/ ... ries/hl-02

Cheap as, and could prevent damage to Aux in.

Got me thinking... the slickest would be to use cellphone car kit input (if present - so many radios now just have bluetooth), which would automatically put CB on to all speakers when a trigger signal is received.
...but not entirely straightforward, unless CB also has an output for this sort of thing.

Weird that they do two different resistance speakers. Do they both have a 3.5mm plug to fit the TX3100? I got a $10 remote speaker from Jaycar. Now also used as a mount for the Ultraguage by pointing it straight up :)

I have a TX3100 in the same spot in my surf but mounted with speaker facing down and find the inbuilt speaker loud enough unless the radio is up to much
