argoshield fill in kapiti or wgtn area

Post by Mattman »

Looking at purchasing a mig and a bottle. Does anywhere in the kapiti or wellington area fill bottles that you own instead of having to rent?

I can get co2 but argoshield seems to weld well and is what I know.

Cheers

You can get little bottles of argosheild that are disposable, they cost around 70 bucks for a 2L bottle.

look up the tool shed on trademe, they have them.

With the inconvenience of not having an bottle for a week , is it not easier to use BOC rentals. I have a F bottle of argoshield which cost $14 something p/mth for rental and I think its about $180 to fill (Cant remember  ) Im not sure if this is expensive compared to ownership bottles, but I can get a full one at the click of my fingers on a Sunday if I need too
To be honest I'm happy to pay for the convenience.

Hey Tom, to many late nights and early mornings, I understand what you are saying but only because I have spent to many hours in PUB's and that gets you used to understanding Jiberish.

Supagas is your main option in the north island for shield mix, i dont think they can actually call it argoshield for tm reasons.

Co2 is a cheaper option not as pretty but nothing wrong with the weld strength, costs me 90 for a G size fill here in chch, twice the size of a f bottle

edit and i wouldnt bother with the disposible bottles unless you only want to weld once or twice a small thing.

co2 disosible costs around 50 bucks and has 400 grams of co2, over 100 buck a kg of co2 that is outrageous cost considering i think my bottle is a 30kg one and its 90 to fill

Co2 ic cheaper but doesnt weld as nice, weld strength is ok. Argoshield is the better but more expensive option, up to you. Just use plenty of thick high tensile paint if your concerned

argosheild all the way, Im lucky, I just grab one out the rack and bring it back when its empty... my boss is a good bastard, never said no and never asks for payment, Iv got a full size bottle in my garage that iv had for a year with the flow turned way down.

I use argoshield on my mig with rental bottle from boc.
I only use co2 gas with flux cor wire, that puts down a real nice weld.

Argoshield is nicer to weld with, nice smooth arc with less splatter, probally easier to hide sub par welding. Downside is the cost over twice the cost of co2.

Co2 is cheap and does the job, co2 does give better penetration than argo, not as tidy and will splatter more, harder to hide average welding

I use co2 based on price only, student budget does not like argo cost. If i was working full time i would prob go with argo

Check out Air Liquide if they are in your area.

I did all the numbers for argon a few months back when we got the TIG. Filling owned bottles was heaps more expensive than rentals, I worked it out over 10 yrs & buying one only made sense if using less than 1 cylinder a year (F size) plus there is the week wait on a fill.

Most surprising was the price difference between BOC & Airliquide, AL was a good margin cheaper on both the rental & the fill so I went with them.

Thanks again guys.

Airliquide don't fill owner bottles only rental. TWL will however they are $135 for Argoshield vs $50 for CO2 for a 5kg bottle. Turnaround is about 7 working days for Argo and overnight for CO2.

Think I will go will go with CO2 and see how it rolls.

I run both at home only use the Co2 when the Argoshield runs out and to pump up my tyres, ended up buying a F size Argon bottle will pay for itself in under two years, I only really use Co2 when I have to.
