Chassis Crossmember Rust

Post by smurf182 »

Below is the sight that greeted me after removing the rangi as towbar that has been on my truck since I bought it.

How would you attack this and how urgent do you think it is?

At the moment the plan is to liberally apply rust converter and seal it up as best I can, until I find someone in the Auckland area to fix it properly (and find the funds to pay them).

Looks like that rangi as tow bar may have been used to launch the bat at low tide a few times??

That will do in the short term, but that exfoliation is terminal.

If you can get in there with an air chisel or air hacksaw with a short blade and get as much out as you can.

Rust treat it and close up the heave.

This is really common on jap import trucks (actual trucks not 4wds) with flitched chassis and is general practice to clean, treat and close.
