Is 3 inch the best, plus is it worth doing the dump pipe.Any ideas where a good supplier is in the Manawatu area. Is the difference noticable and worth the $$$

Thanks

i understand dump pipe is fairly critical with them so its very much worth doing. 2.5" exhaust is good enough, 3" slightly better but cost goes up.

this is more about making the engine survive than power. when you up the boost and fuel (makes a lot more exhaust gas) squeezing it though a tiny exhaust cause high backpressure and higher egt's which crack the head.
s prevention first, then you can up the fuel later on.

i think you can either get a chip or swap to a manual pump

search manual pump on this forum to have a look

also the exghust is around 2.5 inch factory so probly the dump pipe and mufflers that restrict it 3inch could be a good but no idea whats needed for it tho

the dump pipe on 185s is not as restrictive as on the kz prados probably gos down to around 2 inch in the dump pipe but deff do it if your guna get the exghust done but don't know how much it would help to only do the dump pipe

Thought I would do an update. I did the 2 inch Raw Nitro spring and shocks, mud tyres and rims these are a tight fit. 3 inch exhaust with dump pipe made a huge difference. Just fitted a dp chip today and did a couple of test runs finding a setting that seems good. Would say it has increased performance need to do a bit more driving to see how I rate it.

I have no idea its a 98 intercooled Surf 96kw standard. Chip says around 119kw then the exhaust so not sure maybe 125kw possibly. More economical as well. Ive had the surf 18 months and sits in the shed most of the time prob done 1500km in that time. Mud tyres do gear it up a bit on road tyres I think it would go extremly well

I brought it second hand on trademe, was pretty easy to install. I did a couple of tests today and the 0-100 time has dropped by around 2 seconds on mud tyres the guy I got it off said his fuel consumption went down as well so be interesteing to see. I think these retail around $1500 so for that money I think the exhaust would be the first thing to do as that made a good difference. Its adjustable 0-9 settings I have found 6 seems right with mine

I havent checked to be honest, something else I could have a look at as there is probably a couple of pounds there to be had. Anyone up the boost and what effect did it have?Is it worth worrying about

what egt's are you getting?
that vital to know if you have increased the fuel especially with an engine thats prone to cracking heads.

Yep I agree, another thing on my list. It does run cooler with the larger exhaust and dump pipe and is intercooled which also helps.

increasing the boost a bit will help with the temps as well and fitting a cheap boost controller can help bring boost on sooner.
