Tell me about the 87 Pajero

Post by Jamie »

Looking at a bush basher, its purely to take out and thrash around in some mud. Ive owned a 94swb and it was pretty cool. Are these things fairly capable? Info please :)

I have had a few gen 1s - all 2.5 turbo, the 2 swbs i have had went quite well offroad with just a set of muds and the handbrake difflock trick. the lwb was a tank, went nowhere and got beached on everything. I had an 87, the gearboxes are crap and was looking at more than i payed for the truck for a replacement when it died so i parted it out, then i got a 89 with a newer type of gearbox, had no issues with that. Had both turbos on the swbs go too, but not bad little trucks for what you pay for them. The 87 was leaf sprung and the 89 was coil, there was bugger all difference in performance on or offroad i thought. Payed 500 for the 87 (on hold) and 1000 for the 89 with reg/wof.

Ok cool. Thats some good insight right there. The one im looking at has a 4g63b in it. 2.0 Petrol turbo. Never heard of this before. Might go check it out. Reason i ask is i sold my pajero for a r50 terrano and its a little bitch in comparison. Cant raise it, cant get it wet inside, a thin plastic underbody tray instead of a bash plate. So thinking of using it to tow a bush basher instead :)

yeah i have seen a few of those, not very common and all the ones i have seen had pto which is a bonus and something i always wanted to do to mine but never got around to it. Be interesting to see if they are the same g/box as the diesels though, if they cant put up with the diesel not sure how they are gonna like a petrol turbo engine.

If ya need parts for them - (mainly external stuff windows shocks lights etc as i sold the running gear to the indians) i have a fair bit of stuff lying around still just gimme a yell.
