Thompsons track 27-07-13

Post by pmfg »

Just got back from Thompsons track te aroha side.

Wouldnt reccomend trying to go all the way unless you have a rather dedicated 4x4 or a buddy to tow you backwards back out, dont think your average mud tyres and small lift will suffice this time.

I only just made it out myself after sliding my back corner into a bank and bent half my exhaust backwards in the process.

A couple of pictures of the part i got stuck. The part leading upto it. and the puddle and climb that i didnt make it through, I tried to go hard to the right. but the back end just slid round.

The part leading upto it. just after a left hander.

and the part where i got stuck just after the muddy puddle you can see.

Phwow, thats a nice looking jeep.

I dunno. maybe other people will make it up. But i saw a Torano go up when i got back to the bottom. so i turned around and followed him about 5 minz later after checking my underside a bit more.... And then pulled him outa the same spot i got stuck in.

Mate, it was easy drive all the way up with a few harder spots. Newbie mate in a SWB Bighorn drove up easy as, thanks for the KL71s maybe? So many people hate them, IMO it's the best all arounder 8) I couldn't even loose him from my mirror

The very top was a different story  see the recovery of Camel Safari
We are always head to head, but for some reason it was not a day for the japs aye

 8) I go everywhere on them, road, sand, mud and they perform very well. Of course not as grippy in mud as the Simexes but I don't need two sets and with right pressure they last very long. Go the KL71's hahaha

went up today and te aroha side is like a nannas track, went for 40min down the katikati side and that seemed good as well, my winch was bust so did not want to go too far as we were the only vehicle.

here are a couple of pics going up the left hand track at the top of the saddle. this was the Lada's first trip out since finishing the mods and am well impressed with its ability, makes things seem easy.

yeah she did well, was not thrashing it at any time, limiting wheel spin as I know my front cvs wont hold up to the 31" silverstones if I do. but I was real happy with it and my mates first 4wd outing was an eye opener for him. did that climb of boulders as well in the play area and got to the top, he did not believe we could get up. he is conning his mrs into getting him a 4wd as we speak.

well happy, now to get the winch running and hit that kati kati side again!!!

Hi Craig, I enjoyed seeing the fruits of your labour out there doing it 8) ,well done but don't turn it into a trailer queen, next up an exo cage or you will run out of panels  . Looks like you have got your feet back on the ground ------ or are you still living the good life --- well what seems the good life to us mortals  . All the best, when is that SI trip going to happen :?: .

GET DIRTY,

FITZY.

Hay Fitzy

yeah good to be going, Not to worried about panels they are solid russian steel. haha

yeah we are home for good, but been run off my feet since being home. I have been renovating the house for the last 5 weeks 14 hour days 7 days a week so to get out and have a play was good.

SI trip is on the big back burner, just before we were due to leave my wife and I found out she was pregnant. she had morning sickness so bad untill march that she was glued to the couch. 4wd and boating around the south island was off the cards big time haha.

However the baby is due in 6 weeks and after we settle down with it a bit we are thinking of doing the SI trip this summer, I am chasing a job working as engineer on the interislander so might even get the crossing for free. so Watch this space.

cheers

Craig
