Re: Terrano fuel gauge issue
Re: Terrano fuel gauge issue
I seem to have an issue with my fuel gauge sitting just below the 1/2 way mark and not moving. I have disconnected the sender unit at the tank and its made no diference. I suspect the voltage regulator on the instrument panel may be the source of my problems, ill pull it out in the weekend and gave a look. Has anyone else had this issue?
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

Re: Terrano fuel gauge issue
Well I decided to fill the truck up on the way home from work and the needle went to the top of the gauge, all be it slowly. Can anyone with a diesel confirm if the gauge reads when the key is out?

Re: Terrano fuel gauge issue
disconnect the sender, turn the key on and check gauge position.
ground the wires from the sender, check the gauge position.
if it goes full one way or the other, your sender is shit, possibly a shot ground connection.
if it doesn't the connection or gauge is shit. test the wiring, dismantle the dash.

Re: Terrano fuel gauge issue
OK; I unplugged the sender and turned the key on, no change of the needle.
With the key on I grounded the wires. One side was the low fuel warning lamp wire, the first time I have seen this come on.
There are 3 wires, one for the low fuel warning, a ground and the other for the variable resistor on the sender unit.
Grounding the other side made the gauge reach the full mark.
I turned the key off with the wires open and the gauge went to empty.
I am suspecting there is nothing wrong with either the sender or the gauge and am beginning to think it may have been an ailen/gremlin in the system
I sprayed the connector I separated with contact cleaner and some silicone to prevent future water ingress.
PS the gauge is reading true with the amount of fuel I normally use form the K's travelled on a full tank.
