Re: range rover no-go
Little wire with a spade terminal that goes onto the starter solenoid. Check it's connected.

Re: range rover no-go
if you have a multimeter you could get somebody to turn the key while you check for 12 volts at the solenoid. if not then work back from there. could be key barrel or wiring fault. i guess you should make sure your battery is not dead first!

Have you checked the terminals on the battery are clean and tight? Also check the power lead on your starter, the one from the battery to starter, make sure its on tight as well.

yea triple checked every wire is tight. battery terminals are clean and tight.
Re: range rover no-go
Tight doesn't guarantee a good connection esp. on the battery terminals, make sure the terminals and the inside of the clamps are clean.
Have you tried jump starting it with another vehicle?
Auto or Manual?
If auto, have you tried starting with it in neutral rather than park?

yea i removed both terminals and cleand them up. its an auto, tried jump starting it. only in park not with it in neutral. i should try this wen i get some time.
Re: range rover no-go
Pull the trigger wire off the starter and check if you get 12v when you hit the key. If you do the starter is closed. If you don't it could be the inhibitor or a few other things. Do some diags so it can be narrowed down.
Where are you?
Cheers
Matt.

Re: range rover no-go
If starting in neutral doesn't work, then the next thing is finding out if you have 12volt on the small spade terminal on the starter when the key is held to start. I suggest removing the wire from the starter before testing, just in case.
If you get 12volt then I would say your starter is playing up. Do tese run a ballast resistor in the starter circuit?

i will try these things not to clued up on the electrics side of things. i was having a look at the starter and solenoid. theres a spade connection top and bottom of the solenoid. is there meant to be another wire on the bottom spade?

Re: range rover no-go
hey guys, thanks for all your help and advice on getting the pom bomb back up and running, took allday today of head scratching to find out the little spade terminal had broken but was still surronded with heat shrink so i couldnt see the broken bit of the connector, fitted a new wire and spade connector to the solenoid and tested it on the battery, boom started.
cheers guys

Good easy result. Nice work.
