Tyre fitment Q

Post by Maddog »

Hi guy's. Can you offer your advise as to weather 31 or 32 x 11.5 tyres are to wide to fit on 15 x 7 wheels.
Or should i be only considering 10.5 wide.
Cheers

same youl just have to be careful if you dont have tubes to how low you let them down to when offroad because they may have a tendancy to come off the rim

the wider the rim, the more likely they're going to come off isnt it?

a narrower diameter rim will......

keep crap out of bead
help keep the tyre on at low pressures
make the tyre taller when its mounted

I agree, but if the manfacturer of the tyre says you shouldn't and you have an accident related to tyres, you may find your insurance company will not cover.

KATS (Kaiapoi) suggested I mount BFG mud 33x12.5s on 7" rims to stop the tyre coming off at lower pressures...so I did....I have only had them offroad once so far, not at low pressrue though...

There are a lot of factors in tyre construction that determine how stable it will be on a rim. Stay with the manufacturers guidelines, if they have some. If the manufacturer specify a single width, stay within an inch of it.

what he said... i agree totally , i reckon a 32-11.5x15 is perfect on a 7 inch rim.

i reckon people are mad to fit 10" wide rims especially with 33-12.5x15s as a lot of people seem to do. you see them at rallies trying to get them back on the bead,ha ha.
on my old rusty rally truck i run 16x6 " rims with 750x16 sats with tubes , no beadlocks and run them at 4lb pressure, and have had no problems.

Im running 33x12.5x15 and have never had a problem with it!!!!! But if you do get a punchure some places may refuse to fix it unless you take it off the 4x4, take it in with another vehicle and say it comes off a buggy.

So dont go to TONYS in CHCH?????

7's will be a bit of a squeeze, but 15x8's are fine.
I would never take anything of mine to tonys, as far I'm concerned they don't have half the knowledge tehy should

Well I must have a good local Tony's then. They are the only place that can get my alingment right and I have tried a few places. Before my last Westcoast Safari I had the alingment done, and again a week later after the trip as the steering gear got smashed around abit. It was my fault the alingment was stuffed but they refused to let me pay for it again and it took them 31/2 hours.

crikey, they are slow, I can do a full alignment with shims and everything on a d21 terrano, in about an hour, doesn't matter how bad it is.

but thats really good that you've found a good one, cause the general concensis it that tony's work is very average to poor.

for example when they drive the vehicle and the steering wheel is straight, they will put it up on the hoist an literally push the wheels into spec then hold it while someone else prints it.

also they are all spec setters, spec is good for jap roads but normally not so good over here.

anyway I'm glad you have a good tyre store, and I'm also glad they didn't charge you 8)
