Re: Buying Patrol
they are a very robust truck and a true "truck" over engineered out of the box but the trouble is they have to suffer the she'l be right attitude of alot of owners....
rust is a prob starting from the front, front radiator support channel, fire wall, roof gutters can be a real problem if someone has bogged them previously, sunroof rust can also be bad, rear side window channels rust but this will be obvious, sills espeicially inner, and also somewhere alot of people dont realise, on the chassis either side of the fuel tank, its double skinned and they rust out bad, unfortunatly this generally doesnt get noticed until wof time unless you are aware, i have owned two which i have had to repair at those points.
look for evidence of water leaks and low oil levels, alot of sellers forget to top up with oil before people come round to view, if its below the dip stick use your own judgement, i know what my view is. dont worry about low oil pressure on the guage they are so random its not worth looking..if it pulls well should be fine. look for crunchy first to second gearchanges although if you dont mind it will go like that for ever almost..
thats just some basics and everything is repairable but costly if you cant do it yourself obviously. personally i dont like the high tops but the price is generally cheaper, i found the only high top ive owned to be more costly on fuel but not greatly...i have owned alot of swb versions..hope that helps a bit..

Re: Buying Patrol
Seems to be a very good price. i just bought one like that and am loving it.
You will be hard pressed to find a rust free one or one that the rust has not just been painted over. Mechanically very tough, keep it well serviced and it will just keep going, does very very well off road just out of the box, small lift (easy to do) and 33s and it will go most places. Get it checked out by a diesel mechanic, Diesel services in Penrose are very good, and double check the kms as the carjam report is not looking to flash. although kms these days on older diesels are not to important.
Engine takes 10 litres of oil and 2 filters, and diffs and gears take another 12litres (from memory) and I would recommend doing this the day you buy it as this usually gets over looked. along with finding all the grease points and giving them a couple of pumps of grease (there are 9 in total I think).
Just keep an eye out rust and get it sorted as soon as possible.

I have a customer looking at selling his Nissan, LWB with nice ute conversion (certified) withlat deck built for it. I am not sure if he still has the wellside but will ask. I will add a pic if I can find one.
We had it in the workshop for front brakes and master cyl and will be going through WoF check shortly I suspect.
