Well 80's are renowned for having a crappy handbrake, has anyone actually managed a good fix for theirs? Its a hassle having to tighten the cable all the time. Is it just a case of replacing the handbrake cable entirely? Or the pads?
I have disks in the rear btw
Cheers.

Re: 80 Series handbrake
Been struggling with this for a while now myself. The only problem is trying to find the adjuster through the tiny hole in the drum... Any tips on that? (I know that the hole has to be at the bottom, I have had the drums apart once already)..
Re: 80 Series handbrake
What I do is take the drum/rotor off and find it.. slakin the cable so no tension on it.. then adjust the shoes till they are just a wee bit tight to get the drum/rotor back on .. then back it off a couple clicks.. then pull cable a couple times to seat the shoes on the drum/rotor nicely.. if not quite right re adjust the the adjuster until it's just right.. omg what a mouthful..
but you get what im saying so go from there..

Re: 80 Series handbrake
Any idea as to how I could do mine with disk brakes? I've never had a look at mine before. Be easier to access adjuster?

you need to do a wee bit of googling first
the reason I asked is because you kept mentioning disc brakes, which is how your rear brakes work but not how your handbrake works
80s have the worlds most 'pain in the ass' handbrake inside the drum in the middle of your rear rotor, heres a few pics of mine with the rotor on and then the rotor off so you can see the handbrake set up
good luck as its bloody annoying, I have pretty much given up on ever getting mine good again and that includes trying some mods and brand new everything

Re: 80 Series handbrake
Thanks skid. Had a good read and I understand whats going on now. Will have to get it open and have a look. So there's no 'solid' fix? sounds like the handbrakes were average when they were new anyway..
Re: 80 Series handbrake
If adjusted correctly and nothing is seized they work mint.
