Rusty door a WOF issue?
Rusty door a WOF issue?
Ok, WOF time is almost due and I am a little bit concerned that the Hilux might fail the next one due to my rear right door being quite badly rusted out right at the bottom on the inside (behind the rubber seal).
I have had it passed through VTNZ stations fine in the past (not Palmy!), but have to get one around the Manawatu area and am unsure how the WOF joker will take it.
My view is that it isn't part of the body and non-stuctural so should be fine, but I'm, not allowed to give myself a warrant (I wish!) Is this really a WOF issue?
Does anyone know of reasonable WOF places around Palmy, Feilding or Bulls?
I have heard both good and not so good things about Rangitikei Auto and Marine in Bulls as a possible goer.

Vehicle Inspection Requirements Manual (VIRM) can be found here which specifies the rules around corrosion.

I was told when I went for my WOF its fine as long as its at least xxx distance (I think it was 150mm?) from a hinge or latch area it's not a fail.
Re: Rusty door a WOF issue?
Yep 150mm. The rust is within this unfortunately, so it will come down to how lenient the WOF guy is on the day.
Been this way since I have had the ute and been through two warrants all clean so far.

why not get it fixed so that it doesnt spread and cost more later on down the track
Re: Rusty door a WOF issue?
I have a complete spare door to throw on if it does fail so not too worried, then I can get it repaired properly.
Was just going to see how long it can go without being pulled up.

Mehrts.
When I was at Ohakea I used to take my toy to Gavin at Rangitikei Marine at Bulls. He is on SH1 heading north just out of town.
Another mate used to take his T Bucket to the garage on the main road in Sanson, but I think that guy might have retired?
Cheers,
Matt

Cheers bud,
I was going to take it into Rangitikei Marine cos it's so convenient to base and they are realistic from what others have told me.
Are you living down at Blenheim now?

Re: Rusty door a WOF issue?
Ok, had a good look at the door and realised something.
The rust is within 100mm of the side of the door, however, measuring to the hinge itself is more than 250mm.
If my understanding is correct, then that lies outside of the stated 150mm and *shouldn't* be an issue. The rust patch is smaller than 50mm too.
As far as I can see, by the rules stated on those inspection pages, the rust is passable.
Time will tell though
Leigh, I'm back down your way next year so watch out!
