hey everyone, long time no post! moved up to christchurch about a month ago. planning on heading up the wilberforce river in a weekend or two for a hunt/explore. Anyone got any knowledge on the river itself? doesnt look bad on google but Just trying to gauge how much the rain is going to affect things ... eg its rained all weekend here so give it a week to drop; or its not that big a system it will be tame before to long ?
cheers
Wilberforce river
Re: Wilberforce river
This river should never be taken too lightly. It has an enormous catchment area and when it floods or starts moving quickly, you don't want to be anywhere near it.
Having said that, there is a huge area up there to explore.

Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!

cheers, looking forward to scoping it out
Re: Wilberforce river
unfortunately http://ecan.govt.nz/services/online-services/monitoring/river-flows/Pages/River-flow-north.aspx doesn't cover the Wilberforce and their rain gauges don't do the catchment either :

Re: Wilberforce river
If your planning on heading up the Fang Hill side you will need permission from Glenthorne.
We are looking at heading up there in September.
Great Spot
I'll see if I can dig out a photo of it in flood.
As others have said it's got a huge catchment and gets big quick.
But under normal flows it's a nice drive.
