Looks like an easy way to keep stuff factory. Could be wrong though.

Cool looking product! Looks like it would have saved a lot of time, too late now. Need to get a dremel! Cheers for the thought though

Hamz; 99% sure thats a standard 4-cyl rear shaft Simon has pictured

Short =950mm. Long =970mm from UJ yoke to yoke. All pictured shafts are factory. Large long one was out of a 3dr TD27 non-tubo manual.

Cheers,

Cheers Simon. Looks like mine is the short shaft already then (assuming you measured to the centre of yokes?) I may have to do some measuring of clearances with suspension at full compression etc, and maybe shorten driveshaft if it is going to bottom out.

Is there any other way to measure
Easy way, disconnect rear drive and push it up till the shaft bottoms out and measure. From memory mine was about 15-20mm. How much do you need

Aha...we may be onto something. My large long one ( ) (970mm) is also from a 3dr non turbo, both originally had the C200 rear axle.

On my parts shelf is a d/shaft from a 1994 turbo manual, with the H233 rear axle. Is is the same larger diameter/appearance as the original one, but measures 950mm center of yoke to yoke, exactly 20mm shorter. So I just installed that.

This could suggest that the diesel C200 trucks had the 970mm d/shaft, and the diesel H233 trucks had the 950mm d/shaft, both the larger diameter pipe. It also suggest that both the turbo diesel and V6 shafts should be the same length, just the tube diameter is different? And either should solve the issue?

Back to the speedo.... success! The mechanical gear went straight in, speedo cable straight back in, now the speedo works again :P The install took 10 minutes.

EDIT: After comparing them closely, the 970mm C200 shaft is in fact slightly larger diameter.

It will be the weekend before I get a chance to measure clearance in mine, but happened to measure a R20 rear shaft today, 925mm. That might be the go if I need shorter 8)

I have just found out how to calibrate mechanical speedo. Remove the cluster and remove the needle and face plate (same as if you were to wind the odometer back  ). Underneath the needle shaft there is a "clock spring" that can be adjusted. I would say it would be a timely process of adjustment and checking with a GPS but worth while.

Heres how mine looks now with the shorter 950mm shaft. There is 20mm+ clearance

Nath did you make any progress? I'm confused because if we have the same 950mm shaft, same gearbox, same rear diff, why does yours appear to be an inch or so deeper? And is your uj on a slightly steeper sideways angle?

Is this and the crossmember issue related??

Can you guys expand on the gearbox crossmember drilling - I notice wax did it too. I used the R50 rubber mount with the D21 crossmember. It wasn't impossibly tight as all 4 holes located ok with a bit of levering. My old rubber mount was so worn that the engine/trans were sitting an inch or so below where they should have been.

Um, yup. Sure did. Ended up using a R20 mistral shaft, pic shows comparison between my factory 950mm, R20 at 925, and R50 at 930mm.
R50 has shorter snout, and also larger dia tube. R20 snout slightly shorter than WD21.
My shaft I had approx 10mm clearance with suspension at full droop (factory shocks). Now with mistral shaft I have a good 30mm :-).
I wonder if the gearbox we have is maybe a slightly different length?
I'll dig out a pic of crossmember bolts, hopefully I've got a good one to help show new mounting.
As for UJ angle, I can't remember when pic was taken, so may have either had vehicle jacked up, or may have had higher R50 mount fitted.
