hey thanks guys for posting those photos and short videos. Very interesting viewing. Crash, can you recall the make/model of the vehicles that had failed drivetrains? Were they standard, or modified? Just wondering if i need to strengthen the truck for trips, or just don't flail the front end too much:)
A combination of V8 Lexus or turbo charged inline sixes with jacked up coil over solid axle hilux diffs.
Was rather surprised at the amount of big money trucks that had to have two or three goes to get up the axle breaker where the standard ones walked up with out too much trouble.
that blue thing had massive axle tramp and the angle between the drive shaft and the pinion shaft on that red hilux in the video is too much it needed a double yoke or cut and rotate the diff head up a couple of degrees at least.
The 1942 willis jeep would have been better off on narrow tyres, it wasn't heavy enough to push those wide tyres into the soft ground.
good stuff. quite enjoyed this. been on the airforce bombing range then the army land within a few weekends. good times. one of those red wranglers had a boost gauge on the dash.... didn't see him giving it any beans but, was it turbo'd? poor bastard's fuel card if it is!
