EGR Removal

Post by 94PRADO »

Im removing the EGR on my 1KZ, I assume that I can remove this piece in the photo and blank off where it mounts onto the inlet and exhaust manifolds.

What do I do with the vacuum hoses that connect to it and also what I assume is the sensor that mounts underneath it? My understanding is that if I unplug the sensor I will get the check engine light come on?

On mine they cut the pipe, squashed it and welded it before reinstalling it. Its all still there connected but no more dirty air for the intake. Well apart from the oily air from the crank case.

Id like to get rid of it altogether if I can and just blank off the manifolds. It looks like Calvin (kbushnz) in his intercooler mod photos has done this and it it is removed completely. What did you do with the two vacuum hoses and the plug that sit underneath?

I pulled the lot.... Blanked off the vac hoses.
The thing you need to watch is one vac switch operates the EGR valve. The other operates the butterfly..
If you remove both then you also need to remove the butterfly (small one) otherwise it blocks the air passage in the throttle body and causes the engine to run funny.

You will need to leave the VSV for the EGR actuator connected, and then just block off the vacuum lines to from it.
If you unplug the VSV it will bring up the check engine light.
The VSV for the EGR is down under the manifold next to the oil filter.

The 2 VSV's on the top of the manifold are for the shutoff butterfly operation.

I've just done a couple of Surf's at work. Made blanking plates for the exhaust and intake manifolds.

There is an electrical plug in it and the vacuum hoses are at the other end.
