80 series tyres..
Hi. Looking at getting some new tyres for my 80. Truck is daily driver and offroad in the weekend
. Thinking Kl71s at this stage, after good wearing tyres but still good in the mud (suggestions?), prob 33s. Don't want to spend an arm and a leg either. Anyone in chch know a place that does good prices?
Cheers.
Cheers.

Yep - sure do....
My place haha...
Have a look at these - http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 113384.htm
quite aggressive I know but they handle really nicely on the road and apparently very good mileage too
They are in excess of $550 new so grab a bargain.

Re: 80 series tyres..
Probably wont grt good kms out of kl71s on your 80, they seem to wear best on lighter 4wds.
Softroader VW Amarok nowadays....

X2
I run these on my safari. Haven't done much KM's and looking to replace soon. They have done about 10,000kms and gone from 11mm to 6mm and that's even between front and rear.
Some like them off road personally I don't think they are that good as I got stuck on my old driveway when turning around. Did the same thing on my old hankook rt01 and it was fine (even had less tread).
I wouldn't get them again but they were free so I wasn't complaining haha.

Re: 80 series tyres..
Spent a lot of time recently researching options before electing to shod my 80 with the Maxxis MT762 Bighorn, and am very pleased with the choice. Great road manners, modest noise level @ highways speeds, capable off-road and, based upon the personal experience of others, can look forward to good tread life.
Conversely, I have read that the newer MT764 has less tread depth and degraded wear characteristics.

Shop around however, as a customer of many years with KATS (Kaiapoi Alignment & Tyres, 82 Williams St, Kaiapoi 7630, 03-327 7789), I find their price and service is unmatched. Suggest you deal directly with Shane

Re: 80 series tyres..
I've found my KL71 to wear well on my Safari, really good on the road I use it as my daily driver, I run them at 40psi, not the best in the real sticky mud but do the job overall, the Maxxis MT762 is around the same price seem to clear better than the KL71.
I use
Marshall Automotive
498 Wairakei Road
Burnside
Christchurch
They have been really good to me, went in there one Saturday at closing time and they popped the bead and cleaned it out for me then on top of that they didn't bother to charge me.
Also have used 4wdbits with really good service as well.

Re: 80 33s or 35s
So I've decided i'm going to get Maxxis Buckshot MT762's. BUT having trouble deciding between 33's and 35's. Big problem for me is loss of power, esp at higher speeds? And rubbing as well. I've got a 2 inch ironman lift. So any pros/cons of either tire? Cheers.
Re: 80 series tyres..
"loss of power" and "rubbing"??? I have a hunch that deep down, you know you should opt for the 33" tires, but the 35"s have a strange appeal to them.
Do you have the money available to further lift the truck another two inches, AND change the diff gears? If not, I'm thinking you should get the 33s

Yeap haha that sums it up
Re: 80 series tyres..
Sorry Skid, I've read several times that the Cruisers need 4" lift to run 35"s without touching. Have i been misled?

pretty sure turoa has little to no lift on 35s
I have 2-3" spring lift running 35" creepies on 15x10s with -50 offset and it just touches the inner edge of rear flare
girlfriend recently put new 35" maxxis 762 on 15x8s with -20 offset with heavy duty factory replacement cobra springs in the back and 2" raised dobis in the front with the same ever so slight rubbing of rear flare
one day I will remove the 1/2" of inner rear flare that catches and there will be no rubbing

Re: 80 series tyres..
wow .good info and pic. It would appear offset and tire width is key then, if 'lux wants to run 35s with his current 2" lift?
Also, looking at your sig picture, has your vehicle got gearbox and transfer case breather extensions?

Re: 80 series tyres..
So skid, you reckon go 15x10s with -44 O/S or 15x8s with -20 O/S if i opt for 35s? You notice any difference in power? It is my daily driver..
Re: 80 series tyres..
15x8s will hold the bead much better at low pressures when 4wding.

pretty sure turoa has little to no lift on 35s![]()
Was no lift for a couple of months then 2" lift for a couple of years but have now gone up another inch
At the end of the day lifting it doesnt stop tyres from rubbing, and it would make no sense for it to do so. Lowering the bumpstops when you've lifted it, however does but Ive never had an issue apart from minor touching on the inside of the flare

I have 3" lift and my 35's are ok, just have the same thing as Tu's

hahahahahaha
heaps of different arguments there, and they have all been played out on the forum before
8s hold bead better
10s look cooler but more risk of popping bead
difference in power I never noticed going from 33s to 35s although mine is manual, but in saying that I never noticed a difference when doing same exercise in the girfriends automatic version
but as usual with forums, there will be a heap of different answers and hypothesis and at the end of it, all you can do is take it all in and decide for yourself what to do
I decided posting a pic was a better way of saying what I know as the proof is right there to see
all the best with whatever path you choose and dont forget to let us know what you did and post pics

Re: 80 series tyres..
I just put my new 35s on yesterday to see how they fit. I had pretty much no stearing lock b4 they started to rub behind the front wheels on the mudflaps. Truck is standard height (probly saged due to winch and carying around my tools). They are 35x11.5x15 on 15x8 rims with -19offset

Look at a 4inch lift to correct the rubbing

Okay got pics of the new 35s on with 2 inch ironman lift, stoked with how they look
. Lost a bit of power when going up hills etc, but not enough to bother me. had to trim the front bumper a touch, but everywhere else they clear no worries.
