Its such a shame to see. A few idiots about to cause the loss of a unique and popular area.

They should keep the road open, just stop maintaining it. Over time the track will degrade and it will require a proper 4x4 or similar to traverse, and this would filter out most of the halfwits that are causing the damage.

Yeah, but by the time the track has degraded that, much the hut will have been vandalised beyond repair.

It's definately a shame, and it's not just Takapari Road. Damage similar to what Jerry has posted in another thread http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/Forums/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=37371has occured at the Ashhurst river entrance by the car park through the flax planted there and along the bank by the road side, also at the balance domain at the Woodville end of the Manawatu Gorge. All this along with dumping of rubbish in these areas.

I have passed rego numbers on to Council authorities of vehicles I have seen causing damage and dumping rubbish, I urge you all to do the same if you witness this sort of mindless destruction.

If it continues the gates will go up and we will be locked out.

cheers
Greg

I think in some areas you will need gates to have controlled access so you know whos in there. There should be no need to lock places up because of the retards. They keep breeding so you'll never be rid of them, just lock them out.

farksake! I love cruising up Takapari on a lazy sunday. this'll really piss me off if they lock it up.
I, like many others, try to pick up any rubbish I see etc and I'm always pissed at how shit the a-frame hut has begun to get. Pretty mad that the water tank etc has been taken. Who does that?!?!!?!?!?

Working bee on the hut? I'd shoot up and help for sure, but I wonder if that'd actually really make much of a difference? Perhaps they could lock the gates and do a key collection type deal. The track is in pretty good (perhaps too good) condition all the way to the hut etc which I guess makes it so easy for idiots to go do this kind of thing.

Rubbish in the manawatu is becoming a huge problem. The stream down behind my parent's place has the best vehicle access it's ever had (when we moved in around 2000 it was a prick to get down there) and rubbish dumping fees are pretty high so people seem to be carting their household waste further and futher up the river to dump it. disgusting.
Even get jokers dumping it on the roadside outside my parents place which is a fairly busy main road with a lot of visibility! Mongrels!

Having been in need of this hut before, it is fkn annoying when shit like this happens. Not sure how up to date this news is though, as when we had to stay there while hunting in April 2012, it had no tank, someone had shot the door with a rifle and also fired a shot gun through the roof. Was one wet cold horrible night we spent there, but better than trying to stay warm outside.

on the positive side there was still a hut book

The Manawatu council are slack as hell. take the Bulls bridge for example drive down the Bulls side which is under Rangitikie jurisdiction It's nice with park benches native trees and barked area's.
Go down the Ohakea side and there is trash old whiteware stolen car's parts tv's dumped on the side of the road even before you get down under the bridge.

the rangitikie is onto it. most of the river access points with the exeption of vinigar hill and bulls there are 4wd traps/ obsticle's that only 4wds with good ground clearance and tyres can get down to the river

douchebags own capable 4wds too I suppose, though.
Manawatu District council is a bit shit in regards to refuse pickup etc once outside the town boundary I guess. Every time I drive past the rest area by the Kiwitea Stream bridge I facepalm at the amount of shit dumped there, dickheads down there doing donuts and stuff.

Who would we talk to in regard to the takapari situation?
Might have a yarn with my sister in law, she used to work for the regional council and might have some ideas.

Don't say this bit out too loud mate, the tossers that like wrecking nice areas will be there in no time to destroy it, just to prove that their wheels can spin and chuck a bit of mud around, (real easy on flat grassy areas aye losers)

That's what makes me think there not serious trucks as such just SUV type or standard work hacks.

Wouldn't waste any time looking at the ARAC website, it hasn't been updated for several years. Its pity as they seemed to show so much promise... their only achievements were the rebuilding of the Orange Hut in the Akas (well done) and some work on Odlins Road.
