Nope don't mind if its in a car, most of the wreaker places I've rang have serries 1 motors but no 2s
Re: 3.8 serries 2 vn motor wanted
Why must it be auto?
There is a common misconception out there that autos and manuals had different crank bolt patterns.
To my knowledge It's only true of the very early VN's. Later VN's were the same. All VP onwards are the same.
Might be completely irrelevant (might even be wrong), but might help you. Good luck.

I believe they have different crank bolts? They made that many different motors and only change slight differences its that hard to tell them all apart. Cheers for the help though

Re: 3.8 serries 2 vn motor wanted
vn series 1 has water pipe to back of the block ,
6 bolt manual crank, 8 bolt auto crank,
series 2 has 8 bolt all the way through later vn's,vp,vr, all water outlets at the front of the engine.
series ones have a bit more grunt but are pretty rough idle /delivery etc
series 2's obviously smoother power ,
all are externally balanced I believe so an auto to manual swap will require your bottom end to be balanced unless you have a factory manual engine,
if you're going to use a 700 auto get one from an early vn as they are all analogue controlled where as the later ones have computer input and can be a pain in the arse.

Re: 3.8 serries 2 vn motor wanted
That's what I was getting at. Nice to hear it from some one who clearly knows for sure.
Re: 3.8 serries 2 vn motor wanted
Thanks very much for the help
now I've got my head around it all..
Already have a series 2 vn in my Zuk and just after a replacement as bottom end is starting to go

throw a high volume oil pump and a set of bearings at it and it should be fine,
I've had multiple over 315k(distance travelled) ran 50w oil and repeatedly thrashed the bejesus out of them.
i'm yet to kill one in spectacular fashion

I could ask the wife if she wants to sell her 1990 VN GTS Auto, clocked just over 100.000KM
