80 Series Auto Trans Swap Question.

Post by suzolla »

Hi,
My trans is almost had it, slipping real bad in 3rd, 4th and virtually no reverse.
Its a 91 and ID tag says it is an A442F, but it is actually and A440F, has not got an OD button.

Got a 94 which says it has a A442F in it. has got OD button.

Does anyone know if there is any reason i cant put the A442F into my 91.

Cheers

It will be an a442f, they came as a fully hydraulic (with a PRND321 shifter) or an electronic (PRND21 shifter).

You could put it in but its a hell of a lot of effort getting the electronics in

Yes thanks for that, thought mine might have the wiriing as ID tag says A442F, but no, no wiring for the A442F.
So yes need an A440F, anyone got one that works while I rebuild mine after getting a rebuild kit from the States.

Father in law has got an A440f from a diesel, hydraulic lock up torque converter and non lsd centre diff. Centre diff lock actuator is damaged and new valvebody gasket required. Bought it from someone on here as a runner but it wasn't. Had a valve body gasket done in another A440F for $50 up here in Auckland. Sump will need looking at as well. Seems to be plenty of meat on the clutches.

Are you after a diesel one or a petrol one?

Why not get overhaul kit from atp (auto trans parts) shop in chch and Auckland. Cost me around $250 for a kit and all clutch plates for one I just did.
