Jeep wrangler tj lift .how big is yours

Post by russty »

its time to lift my tj
Arround a year ago i put a 50mm rugged ridge lift into my old TJ but have since wrote it off.
I have replaced it with a stock tj and have already found that its dragging its arse.
There are lots of lift out there 100mm or higher but im restricted by the height of my shed.(any higher and it wont fit)
Ive seen a sye on trademe ,and starting to think i should go there first.
and perhaps 50mm lift and 25 spacers at a later stage.
Most lifts go from $1000 and up but are only springs and shocks.
The rugged ridge kit had radius rods ,springs ,shocks sway bar brackets ,transfer case brackets etc . which dosent come with most kits.
O what to do?
how have you got on?

Mines rolling a 2inch lift. but with those shitty poly spacers.

When i get enough money, im keen to pull them out and replace them with a 2 or 3 inch lift kit.

offroadspecialties have them, so check out their site when they are back online.

Currie Enterprises 3" progressive springs. Start from that and build a kit around it.

I am not a huge fan of Rugged Ridge personally. Also, track bars from LHD don't work for RHDs. You can get track bars from Wooders.

Trick with Wooders is to call them. Despite being an ex IT guy, his email response rate is horrible.

You can also try Blackjack Welding in Australia. Good guys.

Jeez that Yeti has got a way with words aye!
Mine has a 2" suspension lift, Rancho with arms springs and adjustable shocks. Love it and it works well but you gotta play around with the settings till you get it to work at it's best depending on terrain. Plus have a 2" body lift to run 33" tyres with just a little rub on extreme angles. Don't have a SYE yet so running with 1" drop in the transfer case to keep angles good. Maybe one day will go with a SYE?? As Yeti says do it once do it right. Join the Wrangler Forum and ask questions, them yanks have done it all with Jeeps.
Good luck.
Yeti I always enjoy reading your posts!

the problem i find with the wrangler forum is they mainly deal with 4" + lifts and there isnt much info on smaller lifts. Perhaps i have to dig a bit deeper.
Sounds like you guys have imported a lot of stuff.
Ive searched lift kits on google and am a bit worried about shipping costs and tax etc.
Im getting a price from the states on a skyjacker kit ,and im still waiting.
The thing i liked about the rugged ridge kit was it had all i needed at a great price without having to source seperate radius rod etc.
Places like tuff dog and iron man only supply shocks and springs in a kit. which leaves me to source all the rest.
More time to sort thru the info would be a good thing. Perhaps I just have to get my priorities in order.

Try asking them if they will change the docket to say its less than what it is.

I did it with my motorbike parts from america. I just explained to him about the tax, and he change the price on the docket and put it in the box. Then emailed me the correct one.

Im pretty sure youll get in trouble if you get caught though, But it cant hurt to ask i guess.

I got a Rough Country 2.5" lift from the states.
It gained me over 3" when i installed it, but it has probably settled now.

I too was looking at the 2" lift by Rugged Ridge, but it has fixed control arms.
I opted for the Rough Country lift as it has 8 adjustable control arms, so no matter what i do in the future, it will suit.
ie, adjust castor or install 4" springs or an SYE/DS so i can then rotate my pinion up.

But, i also saved money bringing in the RC kit from the states as opposed to buying the RR kit from NZ.
this includes Purchase Price, Exchange Rate, Tax Shipping.

I read the Rough Country lift was at the cheaper end of the available kits, but this is mainly due to the shocks.
i have already had to replace my rear shock, and will do the same with the fronts very shortly.

So, if i was to do it again, i would order the kit without shocks, and source better shocks locally.

I have manage to fit 33" tires under her with this lift, and i only have very minimal rubbing at full articulation and lock...
but i will be installing a 1.25" body lift shortly...

Am i happy i went with this lift... Yes...

Would i want to go 4"... probably not...
although a mate has just installed a Rough Country 4" lift... but i am yet to see the final result...

I must protest against suggestions of tax fraud. It is immoral and illegal.

I have also been thinking about a 50mm spring and shock lift then perhaps later on putting in 25mm spring spacers to fit 33`s under.
The reason being keeping the initial lift price down and getting a cheaper 25mm spacerlift later to accomidate the 33`s with the sye.
Im running 31`s a the momment

thanks guys

My 2inch Polyspacer lift clears 33s though I have 32s on it normally. I put my dads bosses on mine to see if theyd work. And they only just rubbed a little on articulation.

Id just follow what falcon did and get the same lift as him. Hes a pretty onto it fella.
