WTD: Couple of D21 Teranno bits

Post by Cameron »

After a couple of bits.

-Rear shocks (usually would buy new but if anyone has some good ones I'd be keen)
-vacuum pump on back of alternator. Mine's purging a bit of oil and *seems* to have a bit of bearing noise.

Am located in Feilding/Palmy but keen for anywhere.

Cheers,
Cam

My limited experience with the TD27t alternators is that when you have oil coming out of the 'witness' hole on the back of the alternator, the rear seal and bearing of the alternator needs replacing. The vaccuum pump itself doesn't have any bearings, it runs on a long splined shaft that is part of the alternator.
Do it asap, or the oil gets into your alternator and can fry it, speaking from experience with mine
If you break it... build it stronger.

mine seems to definitely be a separate unit. can't tell unless I dismantle it I guess. will try get into it this weekend to make sure it's not just the feed hose.
Had a/c going today and bearing noise was worse so thinking it might be the a/c compressor or something.

Yes the vaccuum pump is a seperate unit, undo 3 screws and it slides off the alternator shaft.
I've had a couple of air con pump pully bearings fail aswell.
Good luck :D

Get a long screwdriver and use it like a stethoscope (hold it to ya ear) to locate where noise is coming from. Vac pump is seperate to alternator, but has no bearings inside (spline it runs on can wear and eventually slip meaning loss of drive, and therefore vacuum). Inspect when you do as kbjj suggests and replace seal and bearings before leaking oil causes more problems.
A/C bearing can be replaced (without degassing) by making up a special puller to remove front pulley.
Bearing is about $40trade from memory- not a cheap bugger.
