My hunting/farm ute
this is my first diesal project its going to be used for light offroading to get to hunting areas and used around the farm, this is the first stage, rebuilt fuel pump and injectors, turbo manifolds and made a dump pipe and bought a k&n apollo to try,it looks a lil to flash for the ute but took it for its first test drive and it went a lot better than i thought it!!!
Can't wait to put the top mount on and tweek the boost , a few pics

Re: My hunting/farm ute
Just standard rebuilt turbo?
Re: My hunting/farm ute
Yea its a Hitachi(sp) so more expensive to rebuild but apparently got a thicker shaft and fixed thrust bearing not floating, not sure if the garrets do but am going to get one as a spare.
Re: My hunting/farm ute
Well i am very impressed, drove it to work this morning (spent most of the drive watching the gauges) and it goes like stink!!!
It would be on par with my bosses 2003 holden rodeo now, what are peoples egt temps? mine cruising at 100 @3000rpm is around 400deg and giving it shit about 6-700deg is that about normal?

Re: My hunting/farm ute
Those are some pretty fierce temps mate, 6-700 would give you 700-750 before the turbo, anything above that is potentially getting into risky areas. Truck engines under full load at 45 ton only pull up to about 580 on the pyro, any more than that and they will derate to save from engine damage. I would have to think that your engine wouldn't be under that much load.
Re: My hunting/farm ute
Sorry should have put that the pyro probe is in the manifold before the turbo , its just before the outlet port to the turbo.
Re: My hunting/farm ute
That makes more sense. That is still on the pretty bloody warm end of the spectrum, but not as bad as if your sensor was on the output side of the turbo.
Re: My hunting/farm ute
Ok that's interesting, its running standard boost and fuel pump was set to factory setting when rebuilt.
Any idea why it would be that hot?

Good work, yeah it really wakes them up.
Mine's post turbo and full whack it quickly climbs to 400+ plus then I back off. Haven't seen higher than 450 but my fuel settings are quite conservative. Crusing early 200s. Intercooler will help a lot too.
Re: My hunting/farm ute
Yea it only spikes to thos temps it drops off as soon as you back off the throttle!

that temp is ok. 800c would be max assuming its the turbo style pistons. sorry i can't recall if the atmo version ran lighter pistons or not. always handy to have a bit of a safety margin.
fit a manual boost controller, wind up the boost a bit, up the fuel

Thats pre-turbo aye?
How much to add if pyro 4" after turbo? 100-150? Hope so

generally around 100-200c drop across the turbo.
