Waterproofing terrano

Post by JayWetere »

Do ya have to do anything or check anything when going through river crossings, also any common things to do to the td27 in 91 terrano, also auto geabox if I need to do anything to that there. Start of year went through puddle that eventually came up to window sills in my 91 terrano and gearbox swallowed a fair bit of water, even tho I just slowly powered through it, so wanna be more weary next time. or if I do river crossings.

Cheers

Howdy, the breathers for the gearbox, fuel tank, front diff etc are all up on the top centre of the firewall on my truck. The rear diff was a short breather that only went into the cross member above the diff. I extended this hose up through the floor under the rear seat and up into the lining beside the rear side window.

So far I have not had an issue with water ingress into any of these places and yes I have had water above the window sills on the odd occasion too.

There is no known way of stopping water entering the cabin due to the way the doors have all the drains and vents in them, just keep your lunch high and dry and make your carpets easily removable.

On the carpet note, I removed the sound dampening cloth underneath the carpets on mine as this stuff is like a sponge, no noticeable sound level issues with it gone either.
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

Dipstick tubes! The rubber grommet tends to go hard over time and not seal. Don't ask how I know, I'm not ready to talk about it yet :(
