Hey guys
New to the site, also new to 4wds, manual and diesel. Just abit of background sold my old car bought a Nissan terrano 1991 turbo diesel r3m from christchurch for 4400. It had only done 140,000 kms and while I got a full vtnz mechanical check the more I think about it the more I think it probably been wound back at sometime, although the motorweb history looks pretty reasonable. Living in auckland so I had to fly down and drive it back up over two days pretty much learnt how to drive manual on the way which was mean. Pretty much nothing done to it but now im keen to spend abit of money on it and make it more capable offroad. Any advice on beginning /best value for money mods for it? looking to probably raise and fit some bigger tyres at first then try get more power out of it later though, also how big can I go tyre size without rubbing?

Re: New to 4wds
looks like a good buy
Find a local club, go to a couple of events.
Nothing wrong with a standard terrano....for a while....... Tag along with a few guys that go through woodhill or Waiuku.
Not sure how much of a spectator sport it is but the Manukau winch challenge is on in 2 weeks time. im sure you can go have a look at a few trucks there! There will be allot of very knowledgeable guys down there, probably more collective knowledge in one weekend than a years searching on forums

welcome aboard mate
Nice looking straight truck mate, i do no a few guys from the wellington clubs who have had a few of these and loved them to bits but,
They put a 2" spring lift and a decent set of 31x10.5 tyres and went well,
When I die, I want to go peacefully like my grandfather did — in his sleep. Not yelling and screaming like the passengers in his car.
Re: New to 4wds
Welcome aboard, just get the hang of the truck and learn how to use it before you go mad with mods
There is a shit load of modifications and advice on here, just use the search function, then ask away for more input.
Your truck looks just like mine

Shame Nissan owners don't have the same level of camaraderie that Toyota owners do.
If you read an FSM you'd be surprised how many components/production processes the standard Terrano shares with your standard 10-ton Shiek-Turban Edition hi roof Patrol.
That last part wasn't a joke. Nissan produced the hi-roof Safari as a response to a request for more turban space. The Middle East was/is by far the biggest market for the Safari. Shits all over Australia in terms of demand. Without wanting to go offtopic, I digress... for a while...
Re: New to 4wds
welcome- agree with Ant, join a club, get out on a few outings.
talk to them and surf this forum to get ideas. will save time and $.
But get out and experience it first hand, your ideas will change as you go along.4wd can be like boats - something you just can keep throwing money at.

Re: New to 4wds
Cheers for the replys guys, yeah will check out a few 4wd clubs around and see what events they have coming up soon, appreciate the help. Yeah il try find some guys to tag along with and see what its like but in the meantime Woodhill sounds like a possible option for me to get the hang of using my truck offroad without any mods, what are the rules around there? Does it cost to get in? Is there an area for me to get some practice without much risk of getting stuck? and what if I do get stuck? I dont have a mate with a winch that could drag me out at the moment so not sure what would happen
Re: New to 4wds
Don't go on your own is a good start
Re: New to 4wds
Flick me a PM if you keen to watch some winch challenge and meet some of the guys.
Manukau Winch challenge is on 19th Oct.
Manukau 4x4 club meeting 5th November.
Real easy "Shiny" trip, middle of November about 60 trucks going.
