Odlins Road 12/10/13

Post by Marco »

Doing another Odlins trip on the 12th of October. Meeting up in the top carpark at 10am (directly opposite Waiotauru Road). Last trip was a good one with 5 trucks even though it bucketed down all day. Videos from last trip can be found in the other thread.

Sounds good.

Out of interest, does the track continue on past that green hut??

I've never been past the hut myself. Apparently years ago it linked up to Otaki forks but from what I've heard and read the track quickly deteriorates past the hut and is impassable by 4wd's.

Great day out today. Thanks heaps for organising Marco.

Massive washout just before the hut after last nights rain.

Can't seem to upload pics at the mo.

Had an awesome time yesterday. Here's a few pictures of the washout from Friday night - i'd estimate 4m deep and about 10m wide at full flow  We managed to walk through it and down to the hut, vehicle access to the hut is now impossible until all that mud hardens... even then it will require some work.

That sure is a decent size slip... In some of the photos it looks more like a lahar than a slip... Good thing no poor bastard got stuck on the other side of that - or under it...

I guess Waiotauru Hut's out for a while. I was thinking of heading to Maymorn Junction myself this week but at this stage with the wind like it is right now I'm starting to think even that might end up being a chainsaw trip...

I see on the CCVC website that there's a recce trip planned for Odlins Road on November the second. http://www.ccvc.org.nz/index.php/ccvc/Calendar .
I suppose that might needs be followed up by a working bee...

Cheers for putting up the photos otherwise I might have got to see that first hand and had one of those 'bugger' moments...
