1kzte help over heating
1kzte help over heating
can anyone help me out and tell what could be causing my engine to get hot after driving for around about 20mintues or if i put a bit of load on it going up a long hill. thanks
Re: 1kzte help over heating
could be many things, first off are both radiator hoses hot? if one is but not the other start with the thermostat (its in a arse of a spot so it doesn't get done often if at all) if no change with a new thermostat try new radiator and cap.
Re: 1kzte help over heating
Could be thermostat, blocked radiator fins (check ac fins too), viscus fan hub not working, or it could be a faulty thermo prob/gauge combo.
Re: 1kzte help over heating
hi yea sorry forgot to say i put a new thermo in yesterday and still getting warm it cools right down after i go back down the hill
Re: 1kzte help over heating
Radiator could be blocked.. Water pump could be stuffed... Seen one where all the fins were worn / corroded off once.
Also are you reading the factory gauge?? As it could be playing up...And there may be nothing wrong at all?

Id say you've already done damage then!
Re: 1kzte help over heating
is it a later model one - kzn185?
if its intercooled - sell it to me - if not trademe it for $1.
read through the posts up here, even when people fix these they end up paying for a new wagon (pre 96) with a new head and belts etc, unless your doing it yourself might be a good time to upgrade

Re: 1kzte help over heating
sounds like radiator is shot.
if its overheated that probably will have cracked the head.

Re: 1kzte help over heating
if it has a cracked head shouldnt it be using water?

if bad yes, but not always.
Re: 1kzte help over heating
great not what i need hahah, could it be anythin else?
Re: 1kzte help over heating
it could be the viscous fan but i don't think so , go for a drive get it hot, feel the hoses if they are really hard let it cool down enough so you can get the radiator cap off without burning yourself then the cap off and start the car and give it a rev. if you get a geyser out of the cap i would say cracked head ,we have had good results with the irontight block sealer as a short term fix or long term if you keep using it.
Re: 1kzte help over heating
ok cool thanks ill try that when i get home
Re: 1kzte help over heating

FYI anything over halfway on the gauge is overheating. They are made to sit in the middle throughout a wide range of temps, from memory mine was in the middle from 70degC thru to the high nineties.

Google, Toyota Surf temperature gauge mod.
Re: 1kzte help over heating
or just fit a real temp gauge that actually gives you meaning fuel numbers.
