Distributor upgrades for a rover v8

Post by turoa »

I know of 3 different upgrades for a carbuerated rover v8.

HEI Conversion,
Mallory dizzy,
Later model dizzy out of an injected v8.

From what I can tell, the HEI seems to be the best upgrade, is it?

What do I need to perform the HEI conversion, who has the parts? and how much?

From what I have picked up off the net, I need a buick v8 HEI which will bolt straight into a 3.5?

You just need to check the oil pump drive on the bottom of the dizzy - there are 2 types - male & female. I can't remember which is earlier & later though? I'll try & get a photo for you

Pull the dizzy out to check what drive it is.
I took the dizzy to a shop to replaced the points with electronic points, was cheap, easy and eliminated some of the inherent water problems with Rangies.
