Hello to you all, I am a former 4wder looking to make a comeback, while trolling the net I came across this web site and stopped for a browse as a guest and have recently joined so I can learn a bit before I buy another fourby, I've had a yearning for a v8 disco but keep hearing and reading bad stuff about them so I'm hoping the die hard rover owners will be able to convince me that they aren't all as bad as the gossip.

Keep that dream that you yearn alive, you can't beat a V8 Disco After you get rid of all the gremlins you can be sure to have a great rig Parts are cheap as chips to get direct from the UK (the smaller ones anyways).......

Thanks guys for your replies and input, to "overkill", I guess its typical of a mechanic to advise steering clear of disco's but I know people still buy them regardless I know any vehicle can be a source of drama and issues, I might be wise to keep my trusty nissan primera car to get me to work when the disco lets me down.

haha owners mate was driving aswell which now he owes him a new cab it turns out there was a bit of ditch then before they knew it on their side, it got spun around and managed put it on all fours and drag it across the other side then back

Are you serious? Dairy farms have already ruined it. We took a heap of samples from around there for 6th form science and I definitely wouldn't be eating any fish out of there =/

Common knowledge, but adding to it is no answer either. Still a nice wee fishery, for those who practice catch and release.

Braided gravel, But not silty damaging like the Waimak.

It was in Ken Sibleys old book (I think), Did CLROC trip years ago.
Not legally accessible for 4x4s?

I wasn't at all saying why not add to the problem man......I was more concerned for your health if you were eating those fish

Ahh yup, fair enough. Managing to catch a fish is a pretty massive achievement for me, so catch and release didn't even enter my mind haha

But yeah the school and uni have some interesting data going back 30 odd years (plus more a lot more I'm sure) showing the gradual 'death' of that river =(

access to the Selwyn near coe's ford is pretty restricted chains, wire rope and gates making it hard to get near the river. A month or so ago I had my 4wd friend call me late on a Sunday arvo said he was stuck in the Selwyn up near Hororata in need of a tow, when I found him his safari was up to its belly in soft gravel in water. It took some effort to get him out but we did succeed and just before dark too. It was a shame that no one thought to take photos You need to be careful where you drive as its easy to get stuck, and he had gone in solo so had no one to rescue him on the spot.
