The TD42 Argument

Post by Dumbass »

Rather than clutter up some ones build thread arguing about who knows more numbers and letters around the beloved Td42....
Fight it out here.......It would appear that everyone spends a lot of time reading the same forum pages learning how these things work,....
Yes the Ozzys have their big money builds, but they have been playing the game a lot longer.
Who in kiwi land has a tough TD42 they have built?.......
SO HOW MANY BOOSTS YOU RUNNING GEE? (thats a funny, stop calling me names   )
Single turbo?,,,Twin turbo?,,,,Compound turbo? extractor type manifolds? log type?
Whats the best?, lets hear it....

And also what does everyone have against the patrol/safari body? Is the weight saving really worth all the work?

Well I took the drive train out of my Safari and put it into a Terrano body. Went really nuts on rollcage and strengthening and saved over 200kgs! (no TD42 though) This has over 11 lengths of rollcage tube in it as well.

Talking about weight, I went from a MWB BJ73 Landcruiser to a GQ LWB Safari and the first thing I noticed went opening the bonnet was that the bonnet feels 3 times heavier!

Its ridiculously heavy, if you wanted to remove weight you could look at fibreglass bonnet, guards, doors etc.

The work involved in building a glass gq is extreme and very costly. And who has molds?

really the guards are minor part of the weight of the Nissan , so glass one would weigh the same, dent, bent straight. smash crash reglass its 50/50.
but agree the hood is a heavy piece of steel

Do you specifically want to know about safari fibre glass guards from 4wdfibreglass or any of their product?
I had guards and a bonnet from them on my lux. Was plenty happy with them.

Why don't you mould and reproduce your guards and bonnet? Surely there are enough peoole using Safaris that you would sell them?

Of course you could just put a hilux cab on your truck, plenty of glass guards around for them

I would only get him to mould the guards if the money was not to steep, I hate moulding it sux... I have my own odd ways to build parts which differ from his..
all the stuff we build for the nissan is to save us money not make money, I will leave that to the pros,

If ur that worried about weight, find a way to stop the mud sticking to the trucks during a comp  , bet most trucks are carrying a 100kg + of mud on them by the end of the day/comp/trip.......

Besides, weights not a biggie when ur diesels faster than most of the v8s.....

This is why I had to ask  That is a lot of work. It was the shear size not the weight of the Nissan that makes things challenging. We only make glass stuff because of tight tracks smashing stuff   I should have kept the suzi

That's one of the reasons I went to the Terrano. It is narrower, lower and lighter but i have the same wheel track and wheelbase as LWB GQ. (GQ axles, front and rear driveshafts.)
While I love GQ's they are shaped like a brick which aint good for high speed or tight bush.
Now to get a winch mounted in it and do some more WC! Next season.

Ummm, yeah you guys do...or did. Steve made the original glass guards for that truck and then the kevlar / carbon fibre ones for it. Plus the glass ones for my truck that I sold to you years ago.

Plus the original glass bonnet we got with Micheal Whyte's original truck was from Steve.

That is well before my time,. I have never seen glass guards on Aaron's truck
The guards I got from you were for a mate (the dude that picked them up) so never really got to see them in action,
