Hi two questions Put new bulbs in instrument panel just drove first time going to Nissan dealer, they said broken cable at dash end, does cable have a connecting part between cable an speedo dial. second question got black smoke after putting 30lr of BP diesel in tank. Rang BP said take it in to mechanic check filters if diesel at fault they pay. Nissan dealer saying they can't find anything, an they did not have manual for it so did not check injector pump filter got them to do injector flush still blowing black smoke money for nothing. Had the problem of grey blue smoke from someone not tightening turbo crossover tube the week before that disappeared was running sweet. so problem of black smoke still there any idea's Murray yes was not understandable hope it is now was in a rush brain to fast for my 2 finger typing where's that women got another speedo cable

First question is easy....yes. Small plastic drive that connects cable to speedo. it is about an inch long and white in colour. Easy for it to leap out on the floor when mucking around with the dash cluster. Second question........could be any number of things. I wouldn't of thought the diesel you bought being the issue (not like our third world stuff here). Could be fuel related, but my gut feeling is boost not enough. As a way of testing, just disconnect the wastegate at the small rubber elbow and block it off with a screwdriver tip. Take it for a run and see. If it makes no difference then put everything back as it was. Try that for now and get back.
Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!
no not me this blokes truck needs a new speedo cable black smoke is un used diesel if it was not blowing black before your mercanic played with it tell him to fix it sounds like the pumps been adjusted to far or I have miss read your post or when was it last serviced
The pump adjustment is that under the green cap, I've had it with mechanics here, I must do the learning curve for the diesel, got second hand cable today $44.00 Nissan dealer said be $400 for cable and $300 to fit it, I'll keep the money thank you Nissan dealership. Serviced new air & fuel filter, engine oil an filter all drive train fluids checked an done if needed, coolant, brake flush, new front caliper pistons every thing underneath done eg bushes, tie rods, front axles, shocks, ball joints, tire's. I done underneath cleaned up an resealed. First time with 4x4 an diesel so need it sorted so have confidence in it. Dealing with mechanics here is a mission had to go back to them as well, I shall be doing it from now on. ur thoughts an knowlege r appreciated Murray
hi if your trucks an old one around 1991 replaceing speedo cable is not hard get a used on from wreckers first try and put the hard plastic what part back into cable that's the part that spins your speedo on the old broken one play around you may fix it .....you fit cable in the slot. .......so it is pointing at you.... then you place speedo onto it strait on the more you play the more you find you can do

Possible fix will adjusting screw under green cap remedy it my thought,
Thought tappets were noisy, after adjusting them, valves opening more, there fore letting more AIR in.
Have these mechanics altered the pump? I wouldn't jump to adjusting it just yet. If you still have EGR fitted check the butterfly in the crossover pipe is working, and that the inlet manifold isn't full of crap causing a restriction. Also check the wastegate on the turbo is operating correctly i.e. Opening to early or staying partly open. If your tappets are set correctly and every thing else is up to spec then look at the fuel pump. Also how much black smoke is there? Slight haze or blocking out the sun?
Hi not blocking out the sun. Blocked off waste gate bend with a screwdriver. No difference. Do have oil around the EG. don't now bif they changed pumpMurray..waiting for replies..thanks guys.
just checked EGR butterfly not opening jammed open and engine revved freer smoke reduced so solution cut out EGR ? EGR has oil on an round it Oil an filter just been done maybe 350k ago
took waste gate tube off put screwdriver in could not notice any difference when driven
Delete EGR, major clean out, temporary/permanent boost gauge to check turbo, failing that then look at fuel, unless someone has "adjusted" the pump recently

Just to clear a few things up.......the butterfly isn't the EGR system, it only makes one component of the whole system. By "delete" I mean throw every part of it in the bin. Remove the intake manifold and chisel, scrap and burn the sh!t out of it but be prepared to get filthy. Plate off ports in exhaust and intake manifolds, seal up the butterfly shaft and a few other minor changes. By doing this you will be making the engine "catch up" to the fuel, unless some sticky fingers have been touching where they shouldn't have.
