Dune Buggy 1800cc

Post by mikeyt1689 »

As stated above i am starting (few weeks now) to make up a buggy.. built the boy a go-kart bout this time last year and now decided that even though i can squeeze into it i want something faster and better. I've got a SR18(DE) motor going into the back of it (Nissan Pulsar motor) and gotten a mostly complete C class buggy frame so just need to mount the motor and sort out the suspension etc... Still in the planning stages so any advice, do's/don'ts or ideas are welcome.. cheers i'll get some photos up when i can be arsed

Tell you what though, the one idea he did have, although very poorly done, was the road bike shocks.

Reckon you just need to change to some longer travel moto X ones...

Then double up in the front to take the weight of the engine... Just whip up a few shock towers, build an actual four link rear end and three link front.

yeah thanks oldyella the motor is rear mounted and is now in got that all mostly sorted just got to do final alterations so the rear suspension works well.. got some racing shocks off a m8 who does stock cars and they work brilliantly still as i say mucking round with the rear suspension and then will look at doing some wiring once i can find a diagram.. got a few photos to put up but need to compress them down so will hopefully get up by the end of the weekend

I'd be super keen to see pics of this!

My tip. When you want more power, buy this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 561826.htm

Nissan's Version of a V-tec motor. Way more torque and top end than an SR20DE. I've got one in my station wagon and it's awesome. Same block as the SR18, so will bolt straight up. Couldn't be easier.

a plastic jaz fuel cell would be the ticket,
they're foam filled to eliminate slosh and aeration.
also dash 10 Teflon fuel line with swagelock fittings will bolt on.
its awefully close to your head so fire and explosion risk must be taken into consideration
problems are only a problem if you not willing to learn how to find solutions

thanks slide didnt think about aeration hopefully this doesnt cause too many issues as for fire and explosion have thought about this which is why i figured i'd put in in the back so less likely to damage it and no matter where i put it this would be a risk but it shouldn't get damaged where it is.. will try upload some more photos the next day or so

might be a stupid question and i think i know the answer but will ask it anyway. on a brake master cylinder which lines are the front and which are for the back? and is it the same on all? also if it's not the way around i want it does it matter which are hooked into which?? the master cylinder i've got has one line closest to the pedal and two furthest away..

Cat converters don't have wires, O2 sensors do and most motors will start without them hooked up.

Are you getting spark at the plugs and fuel at the injectors?

Matt.

so the buggy is finished (other than panel work and getting few of the dash electrics working) decided to take it for a test run and couldnt get a trailer so dumped the clutch up and down the driveway a dozen times... all good it moves the clutch is a bit hard so altered that a bit to no improvement.. then tried again and when i went forward heard a crunch and the motor stalled as the rear driver's side dropped down.. first thoughts was oh shit one of my welds holding motor in failed but no the top rear suspension snapped at the weld on one of the factory parts i used.. :x so now to redesign and rebuild the rear suspension.. happy days

any experts or claiming to be on a arm suspension your advice would be apreciated... pros and cons of single or double arms..if i make a single arm heavy duty enough im hoping to get away with the one as mounting the bushes will be easier but do i need to just take the time and put 2 in??
