Hi
I recently purchased a ford courier 2.5 diesel turbo and it has a quiet rattle/bearing noise when its under load between 1500-1900rpm, it doesn't seem to do it all time. If anyone has any ideas on what it could be it would be appreciated
thanks

Re: Ford courier 2006 rattle
4x4 or 2wd ? in what gear/s?
Re: Ford courier 2006 rattle
2wd, at first i thought it was pre-iginiton/detonation but since listening to it more it sounds more like a bearing of some sort
Re: Ford courier 2006 rattle
Is it in every gear under load? does it make a difference if you put the clutch in??
Re: Ford courier 2006 rattle
yea i think its in every gear. if i put clutch in it go's away
Re: Ford courier 2006 rattle
Ok put the handbrake on and chock the rear wheels and try to drive off put the engine under load(without frying the clutch ) if no rattle i would say front gearbox/ input shaft bearing maybe? Have you checked the gear oil level?
Re: Ford courier 2006 rattle
ok i will try that now, it has had a new clutch kit by previous owner not long ago tho
Re: Ford courier 2006 rattle
the noise is not there in neutral, and is not there with hand brake on and wheels chocked trying to drive. It has just had a engine oil gearbox and diff oil change 2 weeks ago
Re: Ford courier 2006 rattle
Was the noise there before the oil change?? its hard to know without hearing the noise but i would get a gearbox specialist have a drive.
Re: Ford courier 2006 rattle
service was done before i got it. It does not seem to do it in 5th gear 3rd and 4th seem to be the worst
Re: Ford courier 2006 rattle
Keep the revs up above 2000 rpm, turbo diesels don't like being lugged down low. The WLT engine doesn't have much low end torque, but they like to rev and tend drive a bit like a petrol engine.
Re: Ford courier 2006 rattle
so i have been taking it to a mechanic and he seems to think its a exhaust leak not a bearing
