15s or 16s, that is the question

Post by Eddie Auckland »

I recently sold the old 80 and bought an FJ70. I still have a set of 35's on 16's from the 80 and got a set of 15x8's running 33's on the FJ. The little red wagon has a fair bit of lift, so suspect that I could fit 35's under the guards and will be trying that this weekend.

Question: If I were looking for super-aggressive tyres as this is a weekend weapon only (Simex or Silverstones), what rim size should I hang on to? Is there a distinct advantage of 16" vs. 15"? I guess that running 35's, the 15" would have more sidewall so more "bagging"? Are there price differences I should be aware of? Are larger sizes less prominent on smaller rims? Etc.?

What do the experienced and enlightened masses say? :D

imho

15s would be my choice, easier to get a spare, bead locked rims are cheaper, a lot more choices available.

although 16s do have an advantage as stones and crap don't get jammed up between rotors and inside of rims as much as the 15s do due to being a little larger in circumference.

if looking at going for bead locks in the future go 15s otherwise do the maths on different tyres etc
