DIY - Installing tubes...?

Post by 00falcon »

Guys,

Getting tired of having to clean out my beads after playing in the mud...

Anyway, i have gotten hold of some heavy duty tubes... :)

Question is, can i install them my self by breaking one bead and just pushing them in to place...?
Or is there more to it than that....
(Also, i will need to drill them out as they have larger valves)

Or do i just pay to have them installed...

Cheers

You wont get them in by just breaking the bead... you will need to also pop it over the rim...Just one side...
When you get them installed use lots and lots and lots of talc powder in there !
It allows the tubes to move when you air down....
Otherwise the tubes stick inside and can tear...

you will need to get the tyres stripped first so you can then drill the holes to suit the new valves, then after using good anti rust paint to paint the drilled area, then refit your tyres

you dont wont to use to much talc, it forms small hard balls over a period of time which then rubs on tube causing it to puncture.

Never had any issues to date... Been like that for over 5 years now....
Then again what is too much
Pulled one of mine out due a nail puncture and the inside was sweet.. Just a nice dusting of talc, no balls to be seen.... And that was after a run in Thompsons....

tyre only needs a small coating of talc to prevent tube sticking to tyre.

You will also need to ensure that the 'build' labels inside the tyres are removed. Otherwise they rub against tube and puncture.
Most tyres have at least one label, some have two or more so you really do need to check thoroughly and that's best done with tyre off the rim.
