Ive found an online new zealand store, http://wwwgenie4x4.com , that has "airflow" snorkels for $299, does any one have any reason to stay away from airflow snorkels or any thoughts on this price.
I thought it was a good price:)

I spoke to one of the 4x4 shops today who advised the airflow brand is a bit restrictive and told me to buy a safari snorkel at nearly 2x the price - can any one advise how they got on with their airflow snorkel?

Thanks for that - after reading that I will not be buying an airflow - I would prefer to buy something that fits without resorting to the angle grinder!

Arrg, no no no, for the price they can't be beaten!!!!!
They don't seem to be as well thought out as other brands, but you pay a whole lot less, which makes up for it!!!
They are a good snorkel, i just had drama with the three i put on which i wasn't expecting.
For $299 you can justify a trip to the hardware store for bits to improve the kit!!!
If i did it again, i would do awy with the inner guard section altogether and just run flexi air hose from the end of the snorkel to the air box like i did in the Terrano. That would solve all the drama for the Safari's.

I have used and sold Airflow snorkles for a while, and have seen no problem with them. I'm guessing the guy who said "don't use airflow, use a safari one" was selling safari snorkles? lol... never trust a salesman - always ask those who use them.

OK so I need to review that idea - the store I spoke to sold both upselling i know, however there are a few of us salesmen with a conscense!

I have a 2.8 deisel which doesn't set the world alight performance wise ( but is a great motor) , so don't want to reduce things any further - the idea behind the snorkle is only insurance if I stuff up and drive where I shouldn't! the surf is the family car bought for getting back country with family on board then getting home again - and spending the week running around town - a semi shiny!

It always amuses me when people go "so does that mean you can go through water up to your roof??"
Once some one asked me at new years in 2003 if i turned that on when i went under water so we could still breath in the cab.
Others have asked if thats were the exhaust comes out when you go through water.

So do I take it by your post that you see me as some sort of idiot because I think its a good idea not to hydraulic the engine?

It was mearly a dig, from one 4x4 enthusiast to another, at the rest of the popluation who have no concept of what four wheeling involves, let alone any concept of how the car they drive every day works.
Hence the instances i mentioned relating to the snorkel.
Reading what i posted before, i can see how you could have taken it that way, I just went off on a tangent about some funny instances that had occured in relation to my snorkel.
It was good to hear some one else refering to their snorkel as an insurence policy. I refer to my winch in the same way. Its only there if i mess up really badly and thats the only option.
I don't set out to use it
