Here it is finished, I am in no way a painter or panel beater, in fact I did a pretty rough job, can still see a bit of the red coming through the white on the front passengers door and the paint has a rough finish but I now have my good paint, just need to re strip the truck, sand and repaint...Anyone know of a good painter keen to do a cashy???

Starting to create my loom to run the electric windows and mirrors, here you can also see the lightbar I bought off of Caleb from filthy 4x4, powerful little bastard of a thing, would use it all the time if it didn't burn the retinas of other road users ahead


Finally after nearly 3 months of not being able to wind down the passengers window after the truck was broken into and I had to swap doors, I hit a switch and it created the most amazing sound I have ever heard, the sweet sound of a surf electric window winding down

Now for the cool shite

Diff breather kit which arrived from aus today
It has a mount to mount all 4 breather hats in the engine bay, 2 straight connector for the tops of the diffs, 2 elbow connectors for the g/box+transfer case, 4 brass breather hats and 4 breather hat bases. The hose itself pushes in through the bottom of the fittings and is held by teath on the inside and if it needs to be removed you simply push the blue rubber seal up which released the pressure from the teeth. Quite impressed with the quality of it for the price I paid (Less than $100 NZ incl shipping)


Front brake discs to allow fitment of V6 Surf callipers plus front and rear extended brake hoses (care of Suzolla, cheers mate, awesome looking product)


Full KZN185 surf dash to be installed, cant wait to get this in as it should be something kind of unique, and with the 1kzte I'm hoping to put it, it should all hopefully almost plug together. If anyone has the lower dash piece on drivers side out of a post ln106/7 ute I would be keen to buy it as it has the pull style handbrake, and also a manual gearstick surround plus boot out of the same series ute would be nice

Also have a 12v fridge to incorporate as a centre console, a central locking kit to hopefully put in this weekend with remotes and I just ordered a pair of crystal headlights

So got half my diff breather kit in (Gbox and Transfer need to be drilled and tapped, so that can wait for new engine and box) While I was under there I noticed a lot of oil coming out or the drivers rear wheel.

Ordered wheel bearing and axle seal kits, and got drivers side installed last night, after 4 hours of cursing, turns out the wheel bearing was farked.

All the shit stuck between the wheel bearing and the seating face, took ages to scrape it all off



All of the oil sprayed on the inside of my tire is only from about 6 days doing 10km a day



Inside of the brake drum, there was about 50ml of oil in the brake drum when I pulled it off



New inner axle seal, lucky I had 2 as I rooted the first one trying to get it in. FYI, a new seal costs $26.30 from Toyota, not too bad really



It took me a good 40 minutes to separate the hub and the axle, the press just wouldn't do it yet bashing it against the ground seemed to. I thought it was the inner axle seal that was the worst condition, until I got the axle and hub out, with the axle still in the hub, there was nearly 10mm of movement at the spline end of the axle shaft.



Tonights mission was to fit my new headlights

Now I just have to rebuild the other side of the rear diff, then its onto the front, oh yay!

How you find the new headlights? Are they just trademe ones? Thinking about doing the same to mine.

They're good mate, just cant really test them at the moment as for some reason my left light refuses to glow bright, farken thing. But yea they are just trademe ones, but I have blue ice H4 bulbs from ripco, and they certainly are a lot better than the standard sealed beams

Righto been a while since I updated this,

My new dash is in, few little bits to sort (glow plug light, Tacho and adjusting the fuel/tempgauges)
New (to me) Ali and steel bulbar with winch (Looks mongrel but is very strong, and am yet to connect the winch up to see if it works)
And the most exciting news for me is that I have bought front and rear rebuilt diffs including air lockers and 5.29 ratio C & P

Will be going on my last course for work soon and once its over I will be taking the time off work to get everything done that I want to the truck

So now the list of things I need to gather is
High Steer Arms
I.F.S Steering box
I.F.S Steering box mount
Coons for the rear
Need to get Spring hangers made
Extended Shackles
35s (or 37s now that I have the gearing for it )
And hopefully my 1kzte and box will arrive sometime in the next couple of months
1KZ Dump pipe
2.5inch straight through exhaust

Once I have all the parts I will take probably 2 weeks off work and swing a few spanners

Don't know if anybody reads this drivel but thought I would chuck it up anyway

Nice hilux must look mint with the newer dash,
how youget on with the brakes? Ive just brought a ln106 front diff with the factory vented discs will be pilfering them off and fitting them with some vzn130 calipers on to my front diff as it has the poxy small unvented brakes,
do you work at nz post? or are you a fequent to the triangle takeaways seeing those photos made me crave one of there meat patties and some battered mussels, up in ashburton for a wedding this weekend so might have to get a feed.

I did the same to mine when I first got it, the problem now is to waterproof them so you dont end up with twin fish bowls mounted in the front when river crossing Im looking at going back to sealed beam and a good set of spots for the better light.

Haven't got new Trail Gear brake discs on yet, They will be going on the new diffs with VZN130 calipers and apparently the rear diff has discs too

I actually lived above the Blue opshop next to the fish and chip shop for about 6 months mate, now on Chalmers ave.

Yea I think I will have to seal the Headlights, or get some tropical fish haha

My new diffs have landrover perches on them or have had the originals moved to suit a landy, so I will need to fab new ones or shift the current ones.
I have been wondering if I should turn the diff upwards (only around 2-3 degrees) To save on driveshaft angles and wear. Will this cause the pinion bearing to run dry and fail?

Sitting in place. Originally a TJM Bar, previous owner (poorly) fitted steel winch cradle and Thompson winch. I will be re-doing the cradle when I lift the truck and maybe putting this winch under the deck and getting a Runva or similar to fit the front


Changed kzn185 cluster faces with 167 faces just coz they look cool and also adjusted odometer to suit the kms my truck has done

New Dash in!! Quite enjoy driving the truck now as it looks more modern on the inside with the classic look on the outside.
The handbrake lever doesn't have anywhere to bolt to on the surf bar so it has been adjust more towards the drivers side for convenience to fit it in without cutting into the main dash, I only had to cut into the under dash panel. The steering wheel is shifted about 5mm to the right (don't notice from sitting in the truck) so I will have to clearance out around where the shaft runs through the firewall as it touches there whilst turning and creates a wee bit of resistance (although I think it has started to wear away at it on its own as turning is a bit easier than when it was first installed )
All in all I am pretty happy with how it sits, just a few dash lights to sort and adjust gauges, and find a way to mount the stereo where it will sit flush with the dash instead of set back

Soooooooo finally my new diffs have arrived.

5.29 Diff gears in fully rebuilt Toyota diffs with breathers and AIR LOCKERS
So now I just need to gather all of my other parts for the lift and then I'll be slinging them under it
