1995 Surf sags 20mm on the right hand side at back
Hi
New to surfs had a Yn65 hilux before this, I just purchased a surf.
I brought it knowing the rear was sagging thinking its just the springs, due to being coils.
being a bit of a tight arse i swapped the springs with some second hand ones, being told that the surf they came from did not have this problem... (trusting in TM)
Its still sagging just as much as before.
With the original springs the surf sagged in the back and sat 20mm lower on the right hand side, swapped the springs to the ones brought off TM and it still sags and sits 20mm lower on the right hand side. this is measuring left guard and right guard, bottom shock mounts are 3mm difference from ground which could be my garage floor.
Im not too clued up on rear end setups on 4x4s wondering if something is bent? Just had a quick look but cant see much.

bent chassis......... how do you tell, look down the chassis rails?, the surf does not crab down the road or give any impression that its bent.
could something up front be bent that might cause the thing to lean, as i think it may of had a bash in the front right suspension
also while im at being a surf noob, is this normal tire to guard clearance in the front running 31"s, or does anyone think the bars might of been would up in the front?

swap the springs from left to right ?
don't know with factory springs but aftermarket ones they are different heights and each need to be put on the correct side.
edit measure off the chassis. it may be body is not sitting square on the chassis. ie worn/wrong body mount.

factory springs are also diff side to side.....passenger side is usually labeled with letter P ..... but that probably long gone
Re: 1995 Surf sags 20mm on the right hand side at back
didn't know they were side specific...... cheers for that, guessing its to compensate for fuel tank and lard arse drivers.... but im only 85kg so dont think thats the issue
Re: 1995 Surf sags 20mm on the right hand side at back
pull the other out and measure them up. fit the tallest on the drivers side.
by memory on the aftermarket ones there is about 20mm difference in height.

It may look like its sagging, but might not be. Are you looking at the guard clearance, you should measure the distance from the bottom of the running board to the ground at both ends. Your torsion bar may be aftermarket or newer than factory??

You put your shock washers back on backwards !!!

Also looking at the picks the springs are fucked , 20mm side to side isnt to bad considering the tank is on the drivers side but i would reccomend renewing them it almost looks lowered in the arse end !!

its underway.... so 20mm is nothing to worry about? not going to cause funny tire or suspension wear? its noticeable if you stare at the surf from the rear but on the initial look at it i didn't notice

don't know if anyone else has said this but first photo looks like the spring isn't in the perch properly mate, also you can buy new factory height springs for about 250 a pair

Just to wrap this thread up, im sure most of you would have known this already but im just learning about 4x4 setups...
Got some stock height Dobisons springs from Trundles Automotive ltd, cheers Chris
Corrected the rear sag as i was expecting and the 20mm lower on the right as the springs were side specific and the right side was about 25mm taller.. Not too bumpy either
