As the water came up over the bonnet on the third crossing thats what the wife said , I'll stay at the motel. ------ A few days in Arrowtown and after a day of retail therapy with me standing out on the footpath like the obedient little puppy --- ok old Dog --- I had time to dwell on the fact that all the years I had OLD SMOKEY

, and all the trips, Macetown hadn't been ticked off,--- towards me on the footpath was a guy wearing an Arrowtown Fire Brigade T shirt ------ you must be a local --- can you tell me anything about the Macetown track ---- yeah some of the boys were in there a week ago , no trouble, what you driving,-- a bog standard Prado --- should be ok but we had a good shower of rain the other night the river is up a bit . Next morning(19th Dec;) prep the Prado ---- let the tyres down --na -- remove the caravan stabilizer --- na-- but I did remove the air cleaner intake pipe from behind the grill --- borrowed a spade from the Motel owner-- a quick stop in town to get a Macetown booklet from the i centre some lunch and away we go ---- well it was we untill that third crossing and then after a drive back to drop my passenger off it was me. The track was easy as, a bit rough in parts a couple of bumps and bangs the caravan thingie on the back dragged a bit and that one river crossing --- dropping in put the water level up to high for the wife was the only one that was a bit deep (good job I removed the intake pipe). ---- The Prado went very well and after a cart sprung shorty was impressed with the ability of a coil sprung Auto longy, there was only one hill (bank) from the river to the Macetown plato that I had to back up and give it a bit more Jandal. The track is 15 k's and took about 70 min; ----- pick your lines through the river, watch out for holes, if you stay on the intended track through the river you will be fine. Glad to be able to tick the Macetown track off the bucket list and the Prado did well ---- the only thing I won't be doing is cleaning it for a while ---- because the dust and dirt hides the PIN STRIPPING that now adorns both sides of my shiny ---- and the high tide mark in the driving lights is a bit of a give away to---
I TOLD YOU NOT TO DO IT,
FITZY.
