vg30 engine
just blew up my second motor and was wondering if I could use the vg30 motor out of the Nissan maxima to replace my one in my truck if not anyone in Auckland or anywhere know where to find a good engine cheers everyone sorry if its a dumb question
Re: vg30 engine
Most likely could do, but the effort taken to swap over all stuff (eg sump, manifolds, sensors etc) may well make it easier/cheaper just to get a motor that will just bolt straight in.
I suggest looking towards american forums (eg NPORA) for advice- the petrol motors are the norm over there so lots of hints/tips.
Cheers

Re: vg30 engine
The question asked should be why have i blown up my second motor.
Is it my driving style or lack of maintanance or is the type of engine prone to exploding or is the age of the engines im using?
how did it stop working. did it drop a valve blow a head gasket melt a piston or spin a bottom end bearing or throw a rod out the side of the block?
then once you have answered that question you need to ask is it worth replacing the engine with another one identical.
You may be on to some thing with using the nissan maxima engine...does it have different tooling, was it made at a different plant that may have used updated tooling or castings to remedy the weaknesses the earlier VG30's may have had.

Re: vg30 engine
chur for advice the second engine blew a rod out the side of the engine i think it could have been from an earlier experience where i hydroed my engine and could have damaged engine conponents then that had just givin out it was a little down on power but just thought it was the new 33s i had put on it,
my first engine was down on compression and blowing smoke pretty much a week after i brought it and that motor died quick and easy without any punishment to it after i brought it.
i like the v6 petrol and dont really know what im going todo do i just get the replacement engine and put anouther one in it and fingers crossed nothing happens or do i just go all out and build a bloody strong vg30det or tt to put in it lol

there is a 300zx VG30dett wrecking for sale on trademe in the naki.
but that's a whole world of pain as you'll just blow the next weakest link...the gearbox.
I'd say from what you have said, buy another standard engine and get a engine rebuilder to put new bottom end bearings/ big ends and piston rings in it, new oil pump, new valve stem guides and seals and reface the heads. this would be comparable in price to buying a turbo engine + cert etc but would out last the vehicle it is in.
another option is if your vehicle has got the jatco auto in it then buy a wrecked nissan skyline laurel or A31 cefiro and use the engine and bell housing from that in your truck.
IT has been done before and there is a 20 odd page thread on how it was done here on ORE.

Re: vg30 engine
Hi I agree with almost everything said earlier but then maybe they dont have a complete early (stronger) Vg30 maxima sitting in their garage wanting a new home at a very cheap price ($150)

Re: vg30 engine
much diffrancebetweenthe vg30 maxima and the vg30 terrano?
Re: vg30 engine
they all belong to the same family and the sump / engine mounts/ exhast manifolds /inlet would need changing front wheel drive verse rwd also all maxima's were autos so fit the flywheel as well. There is a increase in hp with the maxima 160 hp. If you have blown 2 of these motors before you problerly still have all these bits and ease off the loud pedal as these motors will run for years but not if they are over reved ...get a rev limiter or rev light 90%+ of rods jumping out are because of over revs

Re: vg30 engine
MBE good call with rev limter but with more inspection looks like most of damage was fun wen I hydroliked it is that engine you have in all good shape as have all nessacwry parts
Re: vg30 engine
Hi have and can run it up on the floor if required, came out of a de-regoed maxima I was going to us it for a project turn it around to run north south with the gearbox / diff locked and making up drive shafts off set front to rear eg in the FWD the right side drive shaft would be driving the front diff and the left would be turning the rear drive shaft .. but then a SBC appeared so that idea was shelved ...
