Hunting Boots

Hey all I need some new lace up boots for hunting and medium to high country mustering/farm work, probably not the right forum to ask people about this subject but ill give it a go. Please suggest any brand of boot, I need new boots to go with my new tyres Cheers

I use and am a fan of Irish setter grizzly trackers!!! great grip and not too hard a sole!

i find my steel blue work boots not to bad.
better than most hunting boost i've had. good heal, good lace up. got lace locks (so you can tighten up the bottom half different to the top half). but poor back of heal part which has riped out and been squished.
lightweight toe protector tho i think they have non-safety version.

the big problem i find with most boots is lack of a heal and the use of cheap D's.

Kinda like tyre shopping but what sort of budget? If your working in them you need to try em on, not just buy online. Cheap boots online that don't fit properly are expensive boots imo.
I've got meindl island pros and they did 40k a day of rocky terrain for almost a month out of the box and now they get hammered on the farm and in the bush, still in really good nick. Lowa rangers would have been my other option if I'd wanted to have a slightly softer boot.
I bow hunt in lowa renegades as they are super soft and better to stalk in but not very nice if you have to carry too much, ie an animal out.

Leather boots will last ages if you maintain em.

40k a day "what a bloody legend". I will be using my new boots every day pretty much on the farm (mustering, hunting and shit) so looking for a comfortable boot. Were can I try and buy the likes of meindl island pros boots and Lowa rangers boots. Also my boots make my wage, feed me and transport me so don't mind paying a good price for them, what am I looking at price wise for the above boots. Cheers

what do think of Grisport Hunter pro SPX boots and Hunter SPX Boots and boots similar to these. I know a bit on the cheaper side. What's your advice. Cheers

ive used the grisport for work boots and found them awesome ,missus gave me stick cause i wore them everywhere (including out for dinner ).they are the only work boots i have bought more then once

I recommend the Meindl range as well. I got mine as almost brand new via an ex army shop. They had been some German airforce dudes. A very stiff full leather alpine boot with a 3/4 steel shank above the Vibram sole. Great for rock hopping.

One point when looking for any boot for NZ terrain. Make sure they have the thick rubber gaiter type thing from toe right around to heel and about 50mm up from the sole. A lot of overseas boot are not designed with NZ's very recent (geologically speaking) and therefore sharp rock, in mind.

Without this I trash boots pretty fast.

Have you considered combat boots?
I had had one set through basic training and did hundreds of ks in them. In bush desert carrying loads, running, marching, digging. sometimes had them on for nearly 48 hours. Comfy too. And at the end they still held a shine
Mine were kcb but Magnums are better.

I just recently did a 120day stint over in the yukon working on a gold mine doing 12hr shifts middle of no where, told the boot guy this and he said the only ones he would recommend were the grisport hercules. I never had an issue with them in a pretty harsh environment, could handle dips in water pretty good sometimes found some soft tailings on the way to work. They are still comfy and I get a bit of stick from the missus too about wearing them everywhere! Would definitley be buying them again once these ones hit the dust.

When I am not wearing Jandals , It's MEINDL boots, Tahr hunting, Stewart Island and when I get told ---- you are not going out in those Jandals ---- . Gave them a polish up ---- the Boots --- not the Jandals --- and wore them to the UK and Europe, (was in there winter) ---- real classy walking through Harrods and you should have seen the looks I got at the Monte Carlo Casino --- dressed to the 9's in my Swani and Meindl Boots . Go MEINDL, no running in, tough or dressy as ----- are they expensive na --- not for what you get, less than a $ a day .

THE PRICE WILL BE FORGOTTEN LONG AFTER THE ENJOYMENT IS STILL THERE.

+1 for meindls. Have had my pair for 8 years doing exactly what you want to do with them. have worn the soles right off them almost. Go to R&R sport, they will set you right. The main thing is keep up the maintenance, ie wash and wax boot regularly.

Cheers for everyone's comments and reviews on hunting boots. what Meindl boots do you have Fitzy, I had a look on Meindls online shop and there is a lot to chose from Any ideas were I can try these boots in the Nelson/ Marlborough region cheers steveo.

I have makalu pro and they are brilliant, a bit heavy but you get used to it. they have well trained staff that can properly fit the boot to you also

Hi Steve, Meindl Boots are the Island Pro. Check Stager Sports site, they give a site telling you ---- what boots for you, Sizing, etc; you can download a sizing chart, but nothing like the real thing to try on with the correct socks, Meindl make their own socks and once again not the cheapest but the right sock with the right boot and at the end of a big day or night who cares---- if you are comfy, looks like you have some options up there, or I could help out as have a mate who owns Stihl Shop Fosters outdoor power equipment in CHCH and he stocks and sells Meindl.

I found the Meindl boots too narrow for my feet.
Ended up with Lowa Tibet Pro boots.
Imported them myself from Bakers Shoes in the US. Landed here less than 1/2 the price in stores here.
Been 2yrs and still very good.

Another very place to deal with is Boots and Gear in Taupo. They bring in Haix boots.
I use the Gregor Chemie boot care. It is simply the best there is.

lowa tibets and island pros are almost identical. They do come in different widths though, lowas in 3 width options from memory. Importers only bring in wides now due to kiwi feet generally fitting them better . If I could have fitted skinny euro boots I would have got la sportivas.

And rrp over here is piracy but in the unlikely event you need to make a warranty claim it could be worth it.
