Waitahu track at Reefton

Post by Bulletproof »

We heard at Reefton over xmas that the track to the hut is now undriveable and no 4 wheel drives have been up the Waitahu since the big flood.

Over Xmas we decided to have a look. There are 4 big sections of the road gone but by climbing in and out of the Waitahu river it can still be done. The boulders are quite big in places . We have cleared the trees so that is not a problem.

A video clip of Kerry Smith entering the river in one of the washed out sections.

Jeepers thats changed heaps Richard, it was always going to happen there at that point eventually, and going to get worse during further floods, we got stuck at the hut a couple of years back and that was as far as we could get from the hut for a few days till the river went down.
Looks like you guys had fun

Hi Tim, Did you work through this year ?

You can see how the flood has made a mess of trees on this corner of the road.
