80 series fuel tank.

Post by firestonecruiser »

out of curiosity shud the fuel tank on a 80 series pressurise. i have noticed lately when u remove fuel cap a burst of air is released. i have a metal fuel cap and on the neck of the filler there is a breather hole. if it shuoldnt pressurise is it just a case of removing breather hose of tank and giving it a blast through with air.

Yep breather is blocked guessing pressure is coming from fuel heating up as it should be under vacuum as the fuel is being used.
Either way the hose is still blocked

had a look under it and found a hose with a filter type thingy on it that went toward fuel tank, other end is poked into the chassis so pull it out and nothing on the end. any one got a diagram of wat this is.

done more research and apparently fuel tank should have slight pressure. oem fuel caps have a one way valve in them to let in some air as fuel levels decrease. the hose i found under neath is a breather with again a 1 way valve to release the extra pressure. am going to try and remove this valve as no doubt it will be full of crap and run it up along side filler and overflow neck with a fuel inline fuel filter attached and end of hose will sit along side fuel cap. does anyone have a genuine 80 series fuel cap.

firstly couldnt get a fuel cap. the repco had listed for 80 series didnt fit. so drilled a 2mm hole in existing cap. removed the tank breather and sure enough valve was blocked, cleaned it all out replaced hoses and run it up to fuel cap. first impressions it seems to respond a bit better to jandal and run a bit smoother. had only just finished the job and took for a run and got a bloody speeding ticket. was a great start to the new year.
