Pome new in Napier

Post by OBT81 »

Hi all,
I am over here from the UK, firstly loving some of the beefed up 4x4's about.
Also love the fact you can get to some great off road drives here so easily, I briefly had a regular car but after getting it stuck on the beach (I know what was I thinking) I quickly reverted to a cheap 4x4. Its amazing how far up a river you can get a VW passat though!

Anyway I have a standard 94 Hilux Surf just some half decent grip on it being the only mod. I just wanted to get a bit more info on some routes I could take. Locally or anywhere on the North Island. Im not really after trials spec stuff just places I can go that get me out into the fantastic countryside and are a bit of fun bearing in mind what im driving. I would rather not have to get towed out to often! A bit more than a graveled road though.
I was looking at the 42nd Traverse, what its like this time of year? not to hard going?

I do have a fair bit of offroad experience growing up on a farm in the UK and I have overlanded through Africa and East to Mongolia. I added a few pics of my other 4x4 a 98 defender which is currently parked in Capetown waitng to head back north at some point, hopefully. Its a bit more modded up though.
Ill drop in to the Local HB 4x4 club when they meet next but thought id join up here too.
Good to hear any bits from people or if you want a extra hand I dont mind taking the passenger seat to get out and about. Ill bring beers!

Gidday mate

You might find the HB Club a little extreme for you, they are a good club and I plan on joining.... when I have my toy back in a going condition lol
Try twin city 4wd club, think its based out of hastings now, sorry I dont know who to contact run a google or call the information centre.... they were more shinny truck level and do runs in to local areas

There are a few local groups other than the clubs we are one.... got a couple of englishman in the group if your keen to catch up....
Not doing much in the way of runs at the moment is near on half of us have our trucks in bits lol
