Fj40 to bj74

Post by 97lux »

Hi, I'm going to be parting out my '84 v8 fj40 and my father has a '87 bj74. What I would to know is if the leaf springs and extended spring hangers are interchangeable. Thanks in advance for any help.

Why are you parting it out?

They're not making them anymore

It's been a long long term project and after 10+ years on restoration ive run out of room to store/work /finish it. Motors rebuilt, mounted and running with lots of new parts but the body's next which very strait but i have new baby coming which means even less time/money to finish it. So I thought I'll part it out and try to get more than selling as a unfinished project. :(

I am not 100% certain so take this with a grain of salt:

I think you will find the front springs of both vehicles will be the same length but the rears on the 70 series will be longer than those on the 40.

With regards to the shackles your late model 40 should have the larger (18mm) pins which should match the 70.

Dare I ask - Factory front seats and steering column up for grabs on the 40?

Cheers and thanks for your help smurf. Sorry Heath I gave away the seats many moons ago but I should have the steering column in storage somewhere as we converted it to a 60 series one with adjustable tilt column to give the big boys more room. I'll have a dig around when I'm up there next weekend and get back to you.

Sweet.

If not I guess maybe a 60s column might be a good way to go. Hard to fit or just bolt in? :?

got two or three 60 columns up here if you want to go down that path.
freight will be a killer tho

but still a possible option
