Noob hibiscus coast

Post by Old school »

Bought my first 4x4 a couple of days ago by off chance ( the vehicle I was bidding on went waaay to high ), then by off chance hit latest listings and got a 86 sj413, last owner 17 years! Then to the horror of the wife, I spent four hours on you tube. Have a son that is 9, so am hoping to do sum day trips in some sludge and meet some people along the way. Looking at lifting it just a little ( still a daily driver to the shore ) so not gonna go nuts on 31s. Lookn at 15x7 with 29s.

Cool truck you have there. The Samurai/Sierra are really capable trucks, light enough to bounce over a heap of obstacles.

Hope to see ya on the track some day

Nice Zook, looks pretty tidy. With the bigger tyres you would be wise to fit a set of low ratio transfer gears, will give you 5th gear back and save your clutch offroad.

Got plans for it. Just trying to get it up to scratch mechanically. Done oil change, rocker cover gasket, plugs, plus it's going into motor tech 4x4 next week for a tune and a list of things that need doing, as well as the list of not so important bits. Heaps of things I want to do as well like fit a later model radiator, lights etc. after it's been into the mechanic and I know what $ I need to spend now I will know what's left for springs, shocks etc. I will probably ask a few stupid questions on here but hey, better than making a hash of things.

Congrats on the purchase!

If you are keen on some local day trips come to one of the Rodney 4x4 Club meetings down at the Wade hotel, second Wednesday of every month at 8pm.

Defnitely keen. May take a month or two to get the wagon muddyable. Been flat out on it all weekend. Just found out that my wife "borrowed" my funds to pay wages. I get it back on the 20th. It's gonna cost her. Trying to make a list of things from most needed to the least but to get rims n tyres I really need to do springs and to do springs I need longer shocks. Very vicious circle. Plus scanning around for bulbar, rear bar lights etc. the bloke from muddy 4x4 seems to be the ducks nuts for lights. I will know more after tomorrow's day out for the zook at motor tech 4x4. :D

Start with rated tow hooks front and rear, plus a rated recovery strop and work your way from there...

Is a list of required & recommended equipment on our RORC.co.nz club website.

Look forward to meeting you for a cold one.
