26 mhz radio
26 mhz radio
Hi have a 26mhz cb radio in my truck and leave it on all the time, I never hear anything on it and want to know if maybe I have it set up wrong. Does anyone else have one and how much talk do you hear on it. Cheers.

what channel you on and whats the sqc set at? out your way you should be able to pick truckies up on main drag, I have mine on all the time on channel 11 and there a little bit of chit chat but it is usually a lot less on the main drags just cop warning hazards and where the cviu are hiding ,around town theres always banter between drivers
Re: 26 mhz radio
Like Kiwi Terrano said, pretty much all the action on AM CB is truckies on channel 11. I monitor 15 sometimes but it's literally years since I made a contact.
If you have a SSB set channel 35 LSB sometimes get's a wee bit of activity.
It seems like everyone's been seduced by FM but there's still a few old AM stalwarts about and still a few of us who like to see what we can do with 4W when the skips running. We're just very few and far between now.

yep, SH1 early morning or at night is pretty busy usually.
When I lived in Newlands, Wellington I could pick up guys cruising along the motorway coming off the ferry and lining up their mates for a drag race up the gorge in linehaul trucks if the weather was good enough to pick them up
Also some old geeze would come on and tell them off for jamming up a channel with their smack talk

Re: 26 mhz radio
Just look for some linehaul units and ask for a mic check
Re: 26 mhz radio
I would just go to channel 11 AM and ask for a "radio check".
There is a bit of CB radio chatter around North Otago on channel 30 on the old NZ bands, but its on LSB.
The CB technology has been changing and the modern sets do all sorts of cool things. Now days most of the CBers are using the 27 Mhz (Aust & US) frequency set, channel 35 or 27.385Mhz LSB is the call channel and if the set is free band 27.555 USB is usually bussy with overseas stations calling for contacts.
