Ln78 Prado PS issue

Post by u13turbo »

My PS fluid has been leaking for awhile from the steering box, i just kept topping it up until i got around to replacing the seal, but now its doing something abit odd, going from lock to lock its like the PS stops working, then starts, then stops etc etc. Theres no noises or whines and the fluid is up to level. Has anyone come accross this issue before?

Sounds like you have air in the system, jack the front off the ground, and turn wheel from lock to lock several times to work the air out. Top up afterwards if needed.

Sounds like the way mine behaved when the fluid was completely drained and then refilled. I believe the stop-start of power assistance is air in the system. Though after a few turns lock to lock it seemed to bleed itself.

Loose belt can cause stop-start assistance (and not squeal like a loose alternator belt)
